Brownies this evening did not quite go to plan. The police were seemingly occupied with things other than visiting us (riot vans for all...) so we had to find other ways to amuse ourselves...
We started things off with making chocolate hedgehogs. Little Owl is a genius, frankly. And the Brownies had much joy and got very chocolatey and generally enjoyed themselves. And we decided to make the most of having a little evening sunshine by playing on the back carpark - hoops and skipping and three-legged exploring; followed by a burst of Lions in the Desert, featuring the Sixer of the Pixies as a camel. (Sometimes it s best not to ask...)
We talked through last week & plans for the rest of term & then did some singing in the hopes that the police person was just late rather than not coming at all. When we began to suspect that possibly they were otherwise engaged, we set the Brownies to playing Strut Miss Lucy while we got together things for making posters. The Brownies having all had a turn at leaping like lunatics we set them to making posters about road safety in their Sixes. There were some very glorious ones & some quite gruesome images (as one of the Imps told me our poster is very shocking and disturbing, Snowy Owl - ON PURPOSE!) and I got each Six to present their poster & talk us through them before Barn Owl played a traffic-light-based game with them in the time before Brownie Ring.
This means that I need to do quite a lot of thinking-planning-organising for next week so that we have things to do. I am confident I will somehow cope though *nods* in fact, I have a few ideas formulating even as I type. Why is it not possible for me to be employed as a Guider? I could be paid for creating programmes for people & it would all work very nicely indeed. *sighs*
Staying to Guides was not a plan as I have a busy weekend and yesterday's travel did leave me a bit tired; but Barn Owl and I ended up hanging about a bit as M was delayed: it transpires her mum had a fall and has to stay in hospital overnight so M had spent the day in Lewisham Hospital with her & then dashed up for Guides. Not fun... GW and LT were resplendent in the same boots this evening - L made G roll the tops of her boots back up though "because you look like a chav" - nice... I miss my Guides, all of whom seem to have turned into almost-nearly-grown-ups over the summer. Maybe next week I'll be okay to stay *looks optimistic*. I definitely need to get hold of Mandy to have a chat whether or not I can make the meeting next week though *looks thoughtful*
I had a nice walk home with Barn Owl (it involved chips) and was a bit puzzled to find Daniel not in when I got in. I was planning to phone and check he was okay just when he reappeared. He had been attempting to rescue a hedgehog (hedgehog is receiving veterinary attention but is unlikely to survive) and had thus rather had to dash out. Not as much fun as chocolate hedgehogs, but the Brownies would doubtless still approve - it makes a very good example of a Good Turn, in fact...
