Oh, of course, I forgot we'll be hunting down Voldemort in a mobile library.
Reading Harry Potter I was once again contemplating how cool it would be to be able to do everything by magic. Though being poked in the eye by your own glasses does not sound like fun, to be fair... oh and the risk of painful horrible death thing also bad. But obviously now over within the realms of HP so it would be safe to go to Hogwarts now, in the post-book-7 time. I wonder if they'd accept mature students *looks thoughtful*
Good grief but there was an awful lot of death. And violence. However, I was possibly more upset by Hedwig's death than anyone else. It was fairly obvious Dumbledore had asked Snape to kill him & it was all Le Plan Cunning. Ditto the doe Patronus belonging to Snape. Not so much with the twisty turny like a corkscrew. Or possibly I just have a very very warped mind. Felt the killings to be a bit gratuitous, frankly - they add drama and heighten emotional response etc etc I know, but I think the book would have been very effective without quite such a bloodbath. Possibly a bloodfootspa? *shrugs*
My copy appeared quite late on today. Gah. Am better off than my brother though - his copy has not appeared at all. Amazon claim it was dispatched in time and have said if it has not appeared by Tuesday night he is permitted to contact them again. Mind you, apparently they have been screwing up orders left right and indeed centre. Pah. Daniel is now reading my copy which I sped through so he could read it before he gets spoilt. His main fear is someone on the Tube attacking him with spoilers, because apparently some very strange people think this is a reasonable thing to do when they see someone with a new HP book. And I think we should be allowed to use the cruciatus curse on them. Just a little bit of horrible torture. *looks innocent*
Anyway, yes... I was looking forward to the book, but not in the same way I had eagerly awaited earlier ones. I did not do a reread (not least because my copy of book six appears to be hiding & I am just hoping it is at granny's, safely in a nice box with various of my other books, possibly talking about, um, whatever books discuss amongst themselves) and I was not leaping about in the middle of the night. I was in fact so far from full of a sense of urgency to know how it all ends that I went into Lewisham part-way through reading to get my photos developed, go to the healthfood shop, buy some fruit off the market, and get my hair cut.
I like the books. I like the world they show (not all of it evidently) and they way they capture the imagination and the sense of the extraordinary. They ask for a suspension of disbelief and they really earn the right to it. They are well-written and clever. But my world is not over now there is no more HP to look forward to. *leshrug*
Anyway, I want to get round to seeing the film at some point. Though I have just realised I could cope with waiting for the DVD. Golly. Shocking stuff, non...?
