Brownies. And Guides. Bet you've all missed this...

We have 29 Brownies. This makes for an awful lot of small people. We are down to 3 Small Birds (it appears) - Swallow, Robin, and our NEW small bird, who is Blackbird. The start of Brownies was thus rather hectic as I was receiving subs and forms and reassuring parents and trying to organise people. The Brownies decided to play Lions in the Desert before any Owl/SB could start a game (i.e. within about 2 seconds of having appeared) and this kept them nicely amused while I sorted out their grown-ups. TWO of the new Brownies have their uniform already, and R was everso pleased when Spectacled Owl told her she did not look new. It is R who brought in a tiger for the letter T when I was helping in her reception class, and when I looked scared & asked if that wasn't a bit dangerous when she told me so, she patted my hand and said "it's all right, it's not a REAL one". She remains a fine small person, it would appear...

Organising the Brownies into their new Sixes was a fun game. We haven't moved too many people, but there is much excitement about having Gnomes. And H is so excited to be a Seconder. She is clearly taking this role very seriously, as she was overheard by Little Owl reading the riot act on the subject of glitter glue "do you WANT the pens to all dry up? well then put the lids on them please". Splendid work that Brownie... Anyhow, once this was sorted and we had had Brownie ring (a performance in itself with a whole extra Six to fit in) and talked about what we are going to do this term, which caused much joy. Then it was time for Little Owl's Alice in Wonderland game, while craft prep was done. It was a fine game. There were actions. Although I think S's dormouse had full-on narcolepsy...

The caterpillar bookmarks went well. Barn Owl and her glue were a happy pair. And there was cutting and sticking and glittering and general messy fun. After this there was time for my Alice game, and then it was time for Brownie ring (umpteen letters to give out) and home. Tiring stuff, but fun. The Brownies are also all very good at tidying. Sometimes too good, as Guider-tidying was a bit foiled by the mysterious-moving pencil box at one point... but yes, I rather think a good time was had by all :)

Ce soir the Guides were having a pyjamas/own-clothes meeting & playing with make-up & doing their hair. They loved it. There was much joy. All round. Including on the part of the Leaders, because the Guides were all gainfully and peacefully employed. And I managed to avoid having my hair and/or make-up done. A definite plus. Yes.
