I have finished my last exam. Quite possibly in the world, ever. This has not yet really sunk in, but Jennie & Helen the Theologian, who met me afterwards, assure me it is so. Helen's first exam had gone okay as well, which is good. She has her second, and final, this afternoon. Jennie came bearing wine. It is sweet and sparkly, and she suggested plying my friends with it this weekend. She is really rather shiny, as I am sure you will all agree. Yes.
The exam was... a bit tricky. The Wollstonecraft question in Section A was a pretty good question, but a bit complicated: all about what Wollstonecraft meant by women being prevented from acquiring true virtue and how she proposed to remedy the situation. I also answered on whether or not "separate spheres" had a class dimension, and then on how far militancy was "untypical" in terms of the suffrage campaign. So all quite hard, and I don't really know how I did.
Things that did not help in the exam:
1) spurny body - had tied my wrist up quite firmly, but it was still not too happy
2) people being noisy in the gardens (*stabby gestures*)
3) the invigilator... (i) she would not let us remove our question papers from the envelopes before the start of the exam... might seem a small thing, but every second counts and time was lost getting out the paper, the rough pad, and the writing paper, instead of just, um, turning a page... (ii) when someone needed to go to the loo, and asked very quietly, the invigilator took this as her cue to make as much noise as possible. She repeated the girl's request rather loudly, then phoned the wrong person, announced she had done so, and then rang the RIGHT person, having first looked up the number more noisily than I would have thought possible. I am not sure why she bothered phoning, actually, as she was talking so loudly they could probably hear her in the Tutorial Office anyway... (iii) she first hissed, and then shouted, at the noisy people in the gardens - really not and aid to concentration...
Not too sure what to do with the rest of the day, really. Tomorrow I shall be cleaning and shopping in preparation for my guests (wahoo) and then I have chorus in the evening. I might go to Rainbows this evening I think, and just spend the day drifting in an idle fashion. It's a skill I feel I should devote some time to.
I can't quite believe it is over. All a bit strange...
