Mary, Mary, quite contrary...
A very little Politics of Gender work was done today. This may be because I had to take time off to be amused by the idea of universal human rights being, in the estimation of Jeremy Bentham "nonsense on stilts". Which is such a gorgeous phrase.
I was also distracted by the idea of flaming wheelbarrows. Because one of the gardeners was chucking his chain-smoked fag-ends into his this afternoon with gay abandon. I guess the stuff in it was too wet to ignite, but a wheelbarrow of fire seemed like quite a good idea for a weapon. Or just for clearing a path for yourself on a busy street...
I am just back from Brownies, late because Brown Owl and I have been chatting. We had a good evening - the Brownies planted things in their planter, and each Six planted sweet peas to climb up the frames they made last term, and they were also making rope pictures with Brown Owl. One of the new Brownies had Brownie uniform this week: her mummy had bought it for her as a surprise while she was at school today. H, who had her trousers on back-to-front last week attempted to tie me up this week. Well, she succeeded, as I could really be bothered to stop her & she was doing no real harm - just tying my ankles together quite loosely. N, who is not at all like my N at home (N at home being a Guide, for one thing) was helpful and untied me. And told H it wasn't nice to tie me up... M flew up to Guides this evening as well... When Brown Owl and I were talking she was saying I have to have a proper farewell evening & I asked if I got to jump over the toadstool... Very excitingly, she said yes, if I wanted to *giggles*
Brownies up here is so nice at the moment. It's how Brownies should be. Next week we're going to have a joint meeting with another Pack - the two Units are going to have Pack Holiday together in October, so this is a chance for the Brownies to start meeting each other & to start discussing things. It feels a bit funny to think I shan't be anything to do with 30th Cambridge Brownies anymore then. I'm just not suited to this change lark...
