Changing The World...

1st Lee South Brownies are busy helping with G.UK's Changing the World initiative in the run up to the Centenary. We've got a display of artwork at a local gallery in June to help raise awareness for Plan (having already raised money for them with a cake sale) and now we're moving on to fundraising for Asthma UK.

The Brownies have already learned quite a bit about asthma while working for the Healthy Heart badge; and several of the girls in the Unit either have asthma or have a close family member who does. I have slightly mental asthma that completely does its own thing which occasionally ends in my being whisked off to hospital. One of my great-aunts died while having an asthma attack when she was 29. That was, obviously, some time ago. But asthma still kills people & when you're cyanotic & struggling to keep breathing, surrounded by a group of medics in resus, you're painfully aware of that fact. So I do have a bit of a personal agenda here. But as something like 5.4 million people in the UK are currently being treated for asthma, it's a bit more than that.

The Brownies will be spending the day not only walking but also completing challenges en route. They are all very excited about taking part and will be getting as many sponsors as they can, but as we want to raise as much money as possible, we wanted to let as many people as possible have the chance to sponsor us.

Please please PLEASE sponsor us if you are at all able to, even if it is only a tiny amount.

[Also, please ignore HIDEOUS photo of me on the Changing the World page. I think I am holding forth to My Pal Soph (aka HRH the Countess of Wessex) about something. Echk.]
