I would like to wish all my friends a Merry Christmas. I hope all of you are having a great day, whether you celebrate or not.
While I enjoy Christmas to some extent - mainly because it tends to serve as a moratorium on hatred, anger and strife (except for the strife of surviving the holidays), I try not to "over do" it.
I had dinner last night with a friend at a restaurant. While there, a man came in with a child of about 2 years. The restaurant was empty except for us. The man chose to sit directly behind my companion. During the course of the dinner, the child noticed me and began laughing and calling to me. My friend noticed and turned around. The child began putting her hand on the glass partition separating them. My friend would put her hand against the glass as if to touch the child's hand. This became a game which they were both enjoying. I happened to have my camera and decided to take a photograph. I did.
Well, this had unexpected results. The father immediately turned around and leaned into me and put his finger in my face. He said, "Two things, buddy! First of all, NEVER take a picture of my child without asking my permission first. Second of all, only an idiot would think that he could take a picture through glass." I apologized and said I was actually taking the photo primarily of my friend, which was true. He then re-iterated, with finger pointing emphasis, "I said NEVER take a photo of my child without asking my permission and only an idiot would think he could take a picture through glass..."
The happy man then went on to tell me that the only reason he didn't "kick your ass" and raise a barrel of hell was because it was Christmas Eve. I then wished him a Merry Christmas. I should have snapped his photo but didn't think of it until later. It would have been a great action shot, but would probably have resulted in a bit more action that I was interested in having at the time.
Anyway, the photos (I actually took two) came out perfectly. Even though I'm an idiot, the child was perfectly visible through the glass. :-) I will tell more of my Christmas Eve adventures in another post. But, first, here is one of the photos... Hmm, I'm wondering if there is some legal proscription against posting against a person's will? Maybe there is, so I'll refrain. Discretion is the better part of valor, as they say. But, take my word for it, both photos came out very well.
Mung's adventures to be continued...
