10) OK, I understand the whole identity thing is already thrown out the window with the glasses thing, but no one at the daily planet could figure out the whole Superman is gone for five years, Clark Kent is gone for five years thing............

9) Why so many henchman Lex? You have a comedic pro like Kal Penn in a throwaway role as a henchman? How about doing away with all the dumb henchman and just letting Kal Penn be the bumbling sidekick a la Ned Beatty as Otis in the original. Just a thought.

8) Crystals? Boring plot device.

7) Superman has a kid? Boring plot device.

6) Where the heck is the drama? Sure, they tried with Superman getting beat up and the whole he might be dead thing, but in Donner's it seemed like every five minutes there was a powerful moment ( Destruction of Krypton, Death of his foster father, creation of fortress of solitude, destruction of earth scene, dead Lois scene). Donner's Superman seemed more like a 3 act play and Singer's version seemed like a big budget bombast.

5) It's a better film if James Marsden's character gets killed saving Superman's life. A similiar plot device hit home in the comics and the animated series.

4) Lex Luther deserves a better ending! (especially Kevin Spacey)

3) Christopher Reeve went to Guilliard, Brandon Routh didn't. Anyone could figure that out after seeing this movie. I wonder if the recruiters at Guilliard are thinking right now...."wanna see the difference between Guilliard and not Guilliard watch Superman 1, than Superman Returns"

2) CGI-----please die! I'll take the second rate experimental effects in Donner's version to the big budget digital effects any day.

1) Loved the way a flashback sequence was used early on, then they totally abandoned the flashback scenes! I wanted more!

All in all it's probably not nearly as bad as I am making it out to be. I mean come on! The original had the mastermind behind the Omen, the writer of The Godfather, the screenwriter behind multiple Bond flicks, and the producer's of the 3 Muskateer films. The original was a piece of Americana, this version seemed like another routine big budget remake.

Other Summer movie thoughts

Don't Miss: Over the Hedge, District B13,

Letdowns: DaVinci Code, X3, Superman, The Break - Up, MI:3, Poseidon, The Omen

Pleasant Surprises: Krrish, Click, United 93

Random thoughts:

1) Feels like every other film that comes out is based on a recent best selling book (Devil Wears Prada, DaVinci Code). Sure, this has been going on forever in hollywood, but it's seems like ever since Cold Mountain came out this studio formula has been at full throttle. Get a best selling book, add a couple of veteran actors and actresses who alway get nominated for awards, add tons of money, add tons of publicity, equals multiple oscar nods.

2) Don't remake Richard Donner directed films.

3) Over the Hedge might be the best film i've seen all summer

4) Click: got dragged to see it by my friend. It was actually a pleasant surprise. Not just another Adam Sandler idiot flick. Had a great message behind it. Great supporting cast.

5) Ok Meryl Streep. How many times have you played the powerful female figure, who takes the world by storm! We know your not gonna let anyone step on your toes in this film! The sad thing is.........she'll probably get nominated for an oscar! Is there anyway I can get a version of Deer Hunter with her edited out of the movie?

6) Bryan Singer: Lose the Superman, go back to X-men.

7) Henry Winkler.........you were awesome as the Fonz........and you were awesome in Click!

8) Who gives a shit about Iceman, Rogue, and the Angel?

9) Poseidon: It just aint the same without Shelly Winters.

10) The Omen: It just aint the same without Gregory Peck.
