Lan Yu in cinema
Watched Lan Yu last night, the movie is not censored at all. It's much better than watching vcd at home which is not complete compared to the cinema version.
The advertisement and the posters of the movie said R21 mature theme, thus when we stepped into the cinema at lido, I found the audience a bit too straight. There were some aunties and uncles (real ones, not the bitching word for older aj) sitting through the whole movie, then when we walked out of the cinema i overheard that they were talking about the story of the movie, concluded that it's about two ah gua (is this the hokkin word for aj?) and blah blah. Very funny. But from the silence in the cinema when the movie went to some very touching moments, i could tell that they were also touched.
The funniest is, as known, at the beginning part of the movie there's a sex scene of Handong and Lan Yu in bed, full frontal. A straight couple found that it's not a straight R21 movie, could not take it, stood up and ran out of the cinema. We had a good laugh.
Anyway, though watched vcd before, watching it again in cinema still left us touched. Some details of the film only can be noticed and empathized in cinema.
The last shot is black and white where Handong hugged Lan Yu soulfully and tightly upon their reunion. It'll be haunting in my mind for a long time.
