"June 4th 2012 -- Notices:
  • Please note we would like to clarify the content policy we have in place since 2002. FanFiction.Net follows the Fiction Rating system ranging from Fiction K to Fiction M. Although Fiction Ratings goes up to Fiction MA, FanFiction.Net since 2002 has not allowed Fiction MA rated content which can contain adult/explicit content on the site. FanFiction.Net only accepts content in the Fiction K through Fiction M range. Fiction M can contain adult language, themes and suggestions. Detailed descriptions of physical interaction of sexual or violent nature is considered Fiction MA and has not been allowed on the site since 2002."

Okay. I shouldn't be as upset by this as I am. It's perfectly fair. The site itself could probably get into some serious trouble if it continues to have some of the more explicit stuff on it (and I wouldn't be too surprised if it already has). Or hell, I don't know. But they have said it from the start, I guess.

I just wish things didn't have to be this way. The more explicit stuff on fanfiction, I know, has been more beneficial than not. I didn't know what any of the male anatomy "down there" was before FF, nor did I know that men could also orgasm. Hell, I'd never been informed of that stuff. I don't know how everyone else found it out, but FF was how I learned a lot about sexual things that no one ever cared to tell me about. I didn't know what nub, shaft, perky (in relation to those), dildo, and various other sexual terms, meant before FF. Of course, I probably would have learned somehow, but I would've looked like a dumbass probably by finding out.

And hell, I know there were many other kids out there who had no clue as to how the workings of sex, well, worked. Sex ED only teaches us about what STDs you can get if you penetrate, but nothing else (obviously). I don't know how most of these other kids knew- either they were just born knowing how sex works or I just don't want to know- but me and the other dorks in middle school were clueless.

Basically, fanfiction was the only place I knew I could go to where I could steadily learn about that stuff without being scarred for life with pop-up visuals on spam websites. And there are still kids out there (well, not kids) who are never going to learn about sex until they experience it.

Well, that was just my own personal beef with this whole FF mess. There are a ton of reasons why this would be a good decision to take down all explicit content, and then there are weirder but still legitimate reasons why it's good to leave it up.

fanfiction, rant
