Farrelly on Sydney

According to Elizabeth Farrelly, Sydney "has Botoxed away much of its own character." We should all be ashamed of the soulless monster our city has degenerated into. Citywide, much of our built environment rudely insults the divine beauty of its natural backdrop. Sydneysiders must start caring about more than just themselves. We can do better -- ( Read more... )

there was an article in sun herald (page 16, i think. or 19?) that said that sydney is actually quite community-minded. over 70% of us know our neighbours!

yeah, i saw that.. shh!

actually i suppose it's one of those things that gets exaggerated too much without looking at the evidence. but then again, knowing who your neighbours are or having met them a few times isn't quite the same as knowing your entire street (or building) and doing lots of community things, going for dinner with the neighbours, kids spending time with each other, etc.

did you read the article in sunday life about that street? communities still exist! i think we just like gloom and doom.

but still, i don't think stoneybrook-bsc type communities exist in sydney. sad. neighbourhood talent shows sound like they're so much fun!

oh, yeah i saw that article!

hmm... maybe.... ok, probably. i can't say i'd want to get to know my street if they decided to have a big street xmas party... god forbid!
