I like the idea of this kind of contests but it's more like popularity contest than good graphics contest ;) In my very humble opinion...
That's why I won't be nominating anyone -- I already noticed not very good BUT POPULAR makers have more votes than GOOD ONES. :(
I wish you luck, though -- you and obaona - my biggest inspirations :D

There's absolutely a popularity aspect to it. I'm ignoring that and just nominating those people whose work I love. I haven't ever done an iconpraise entry or even commented as much as I should so I'm taking this opportunity to try to make certain those whose work I love are nominated. I don't care who "wins" or gets the most "seconds" -- that'll be a popularity context for sure -- but I do care about getting those whose work I think merits mention onto the lists.

Thanks for the good wishes. I'm not concerned as I already know I'm not popular and I'm certainly not going to "win" even if merit were the only criterion. I'm happy to get mentioned. :D

There's no doubt it's a popularity contest. That's why I don't care who eventually wins. I'm hoping to recognize those whose work inspires me and maybe even introduce some people to their work. The comm gets a LOT of traffic. ♥

I nominated you in Best Coloring and Best Text. You really inspired me with your text use and coloring long long ago when I was a n00b icon maker :). You still inspire me but about a year ago I was like "wooow, how is it even possible to color like that!!" ;p

I really don't understand why oba and spud66cat don't get many +1 votes... It just proves it's a popularity contest, hehe...

Agreed. Obviously I think anyone whom I've nominated should get an avalanche of +1 votes because, well, they're brilliant. There's a certain aspect to it where it's run by a group comprised of a bunch of really talented makers but they tend to get nominated and seconded and many won/placed in the first round. That makes sense as the people reading their comm would have been the natural people to nominate/second/vote. Not implying that they didn't make gorgeous icons but just the their audience is self-selected to love their work (I'm one of them).

Anyhow, it is what it is. Humans are never free of politics. My goal is to let makers know I like their work. After that, it's out of my hands. :D

BTW, I have not forgotten our real person icon battle. I promise this time to choose usable caps. For real.

I was dismissed from my work yesterday (along with all other employees) so I'm looking for new job... :(
Plus I'm really into making the Mandalorian armor right now so I'll spend my weekends on it ;)

The company I worked for had really big money problems and that's why they kicked everyone out. I was promised a pay raise in Ferbruary/March but I never got it so I had a feeling something bad was going on.
I have some money saved for Asylum 7 but I'm afraid I won't be purchasing any photo ops :( -unless I find a new job quickly, but I probably won't because there aren't many job offers. But that's okay, I'm not worried yet:).
