I recently had a request to share my User Interface. While I was in ICC10, I snapped a few screenies...only these two really seem to work very well, so I'll post 'em.
If you don't like WoW, well, um, carry on?
(
Cut to save your flists...and the sanity of those who hate WoW. )
* Wowwiki, maybe a month ago, had a banner ad in the rotation that automatically virused your machine (via a Flash exploit) if you viewed it. If you had a Flash or Ad Blocker, great. Many people don't. And these jerks keep finding new ways to slip around people's defenses.
* If you are hacked, they do not hit you immediately. Sometimes they wait (for awhile, even!) until they need the gold for a sale, and then, BAM, you are hacked. This actually relates to my next bullet point....
* Nico got hacked. We later traced it to a virus/keylogger/thingie, and that was traced to something he did months prior. Problem was, none of the virus scanners or software he uses to be paranoid (and it's like 2-3 programs) were updated to be even capable of detecting it until well after he had been hacked.
* Account correction IS A PAIN IN THE ASS. After being hacked, it takes probably a good week (shorter if you're lucky) and doesn't have a 100% success rate of getting everything back to the way it was prior. It is not fun. It is the most aggravating thing if you just want to relax on the game.
The hackers are not gentle when they tear through the account, and they do things you would not think they would do. They delete friends lists, so that they can list themselves to make offloading goods through the mail faster. They use all your badges & tokens to buy stuff, then sell it off. They delete characters to make room for 1-use mules, if you don't have enough empty slots for their liking. (Thankfully, they were able to restore his lost character(s), though he permanently lost some gear out of it.)
Finally, when the GMs do get your stuff back after the long wait, you have to pull it all out through your mailbox. x_x
* There are several ways to shortcut long phone calls with Blizzard in the case of a lost or malfunctioning authenticator. First, if it just breaks, giving them the serial number on the unit (and maybe some account info) is enough to get them to remove the thing. If you lose it, I have heard that giving them the CD key off of your original disc is enough information, as well.
* So I have an extra authenticator, left over from Blizzcon....
