surprise me, UP

Pretty little cafe...and has free wifi too!

UP Peeps, where do you think this could be?
(Question only valid for those who graduated in April 2009 or earlier)

Well, on my visit to UP (after what, two, three months?!) the other day to see Sheng <3, I was shocked to see a lot of changes.
First, this cafe that used to be the canteen behind Music. Whoah.
And it's not anymore just the "canteen sa Music", it now has a name: Cafe Iana. shushal!

I couldn't believe my eyes that this place could exist there!
The cafe was well-lit, has good air conditioning and has free wifi! You also have to line up just like in any other canteen (they haven't taken it up the next level and have waiters bring you the menu) but they have very attentive and courteous crew to take your order... Yes, I'd call them "crew" and not just "Ate" or "Kuya" cos they looked like they're working for McDonald's! They even have those polo shirt uniforms!~ Then they give you numbers to take to your table so the waiters can bring your food to you when it's ready. Wow, just wow.

They serve the regular kanin at ulam and they also have pasta and salads, but on top of that, what I loved most... is their pastry selection! They got cakes! And pies!

For lunch I had sizzling sisig with egg and it was quite good, I liked it~ Sheng had spaghetti but I don't know how it was cos I didn't try hers haha!~ And for dessert, I had the Chocnut Cake (?) i think, Sheng and Chino had Mousse cake. I liked the chocnut cake, i think it's my first time trying it out and it was good!~ I love chocnut and I love cake, so this one's a good combination~ Sheng and Chino's mousse cakes were good too, I tried them and they're one and the same thing just that the one Sheng had was a bigger slice and Chino's was the square cut slice.

After the long chitchat at Cafe Iana, we went back to Maskom. Earlier while waiting for Sheng before we had lunch, I was already at Maskom and thinking of getting some drinks at the canteen but was surprised the canteen was not where it used to be! I was completely disoriented. O.o

I decided to go back and rediscover the Maskom building, hehe~ What used to be the canteen is now renovated to be something else sponsored by The Philippine Star. The adjacent room was also repainted and the walls were taken down and changed into accordion-type divisions (i don't know how else to call it.. T.T) so it could functionas a classroom and if more room is needed, they can open it up and extend space to the room that used to be the canteen. I still don't know what it's supposed to be, Manong Karpintero said it will be a reading room, I dunno.

The whole Journ department has undergone some beautification and upgrading as well!~ And we got the Philippine Daily Inquirer to thank for! Rooms are repainted, old wooden arm chairs are replaced with new plastic ones and white boards are changed. Each room now has doors with glass windows on them so no student will ever go to the wrong class ever again and students can check if the prof is there or not easier than opening the door and drawing the whole attention of the class to them. Pretty neat, I liked it. ^^

Because even after years of classes here in Maskom I still don't know the room's numbers...

This is where I listened (LISTEN: cos most of the time I was on sabaw mode and with brilliant classmates to do all the talking, why would I even want to butt in? Eli was having such a great time part-time lecturing our class, why should I spoil the moment? XD Plus all those Encanto stares avoidance strategies seem to work... Hehe~) to a lot of interesting discussions on gender sensitivity for J196 under Mam Encanto;

where we watched a lot of films on animals like the crying camel, the penguins and their journey to somewhere, and the heartwarming story of some snow dogs--I FORGOT ALL THE TITLES, for J195 under Mam Rara;

where all students come at 9 or 10 for an 8:30 class and the coolest professor still won't be there by then so we just had to do our stuff: chat or read magazines or newspapers and by the time our professor arrives, we talk about photojournalism for a good 10 minutes or so and we're off... that was J123 under Sir Nartea...

I had many other classes in this room but I still don't know what room number it is. Sue me.

THIS ROOM IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
And it now looks like this.

AND THIS ONE, IS NOT THE BNR.
Computers are not at BNR anymore!

Still, I don't know what this room is called, but it's the room just in front of the Journ Dept and Ate Racquel, and beside the room I mentioned earlier. I think I never took any classes here so I don't really remember. :P Well, they got new computers! Wow. After putting up with the old computers for J121 and 122, I suddenly felt like they deprived our batch of all the good things because they're giving all these upgrades to the later batches!!! They thought we'd be happy with the renovated ladies' CR and lobby with dedications to the Gawad Plaridel Awardees but heck we'd be happier with all these!  XD

After all the surprises, I thought my day was done. Sheng and Chino decided they'd have their IDs countersigned at the library and suddenly Sheng asked me if I filed for "RESIDENCY" yet. And I was all, "Residen-WHAT?". I decided to pay Ate Racquel another friendly visit and I found out that I had to file for RESIDENCY so I could graduate this coming semester or else I'd go AWOL and won't be able to graduate next semester as well = delayed AGAIN! @O!#*&(!(&)!@ WTF.

Because it was raining earlier that day, I was thinking of not going to UP anymore and even texted Sheng to postpone our meeting to next next week after I come back from Bangkok. I thank Sheng for saving me from another year's delay. XD *hug*

When I went to the Admin, Ate Terry said that it was the deadline for enrollment that day. Great. But they all consoled me (after seeing my 2004- student number) saying that I could file for appeal and come back the next day. And so I did.

I got all the forms filled up and I, once again, got my "GRADUATING" status. Hee-hee. ^_________________^

I guess I really better graduate this time. :P

(Gosh, I think this is the longest school-related entry I've ever made and I'm not even attending school anymore! WHY? XD)

And oh, this was a very surprising Tuesday indeed... I went to Trinoma before going home and met boy crush Robi. Surprise surprise. Haha!
