I really didn't know until this one (and probably last) time that I decided to feed my curiosity (and appetite!) and dragged Meli 언니 to Zenses Neo Shanghai Cuisine one night (of course when she was here~ hehe).
I saw it on TV and was amazed at how they used nitrogen to make smoking ice cream and popcorn. It was so cool, I just had to try it out! I didn't know 'cool' and 'amazing' came with a price. XD
We were quite full when we got there so we just decided on trying out the ice cream, and Xiao Long Bao (dongbang fangirls MUST know why this is part of the MUST TRY food there) and of course, some slushie for our drinks. Very very light snack, yeah?
And because it was a perfect time to NOT have a camera, I'd be importing pictures from Anton of OurAwesomePlanet and his entry
HERE. We got the Osmanthus flavor for our ice cream (yeah, i heard you. WHAT IS 'OSMANTHUS'?) We didn't know what osmanthus is either, but we chose it over Vigan Longganisa and Tocino flavor ice cream, among many others. It would have been a treat for my taste buds, but I wasn't ready at that time yet. Meat-flavored ice cream is still a far-fetched idea for me. XD
The ice cream was made in front of us, and because of liquid NITROGEN, it took just about 5 minutes to freeze the whole thing and served to us in about 10 minutes! That was quick!
I liked the ice cream, it was very creamy but I cannot pinpoint the flavor as much because I really have no idea as to how osmanthus should taste. Boo. But I liked the total experience~ ^^
After a few longer talks and catching up, finishing Xiao Long Bao (not Xiah, long bye~ XD) and brain freeze thanks to slushie, we got the bill and it was "the 'cool' and 'amazing' that came with the price" translated to Philippine pesos.
The ice cream was for friggin' PhP 480 and that's for 2 scoops each!!! I think that's the most expensive ice cream i've ever had. I was thinking of going back for the meat-flavored ice cream BUT I might postponed it to a later, later date or probably until I can make my own nitrogen ice cream. Hee-hee.
To tell it frankly, it was really JUST the nitrogen and the smoke effect that I was after. Anyway, it still was a treat for my senses. ^^
