Despite good advice and my own better judgment the wedding must go on (I'm the only daughter and couldn't break my mother's heart like that and Rich couldn't ruin his mother's dreams of seeing her son get married). I have more then a year to plan it and get all my ducks in a row so I think I can do it. The gist of the plan is August 20th, 2008 Rich and I will be wed in some marvelous, gorgeous, beautiful location in the Great Smokey Mountains (to be named later when we discover it) before roughly 50 of our closest friends and family. Following which we will be whisked away to our luxury cabin in the woods where we will dine and make merry on hardy BBQ, sushi, salads, cake and moonshine (may be not the moonshine but it only seemed fitting). And... yeah that's pretty much it folks.
The root of my dismay toward this whole process is finding our luxury cabin in the woods. We need a cabin large enough to sleep about 12 adults and 4 kids (just the wedding party and their SO's). But it needs to be close (as in right next door or across the street) to other moderately priced cabins for our guests to stay in b/c we don't want anyone to have drive after the reception (that moonshine will knock you right on yer ass if you ain't careful). It seems relatively minor but my mom is concerned about getting places booked ASAP and I don't really blame her but it's rather stress inducing.
On a positive note I have a bunch of other things already figured out.
Our flowers will be Gerber Daisy's in lovely shades of rust, red and yellow just like these except I will wrap them differently (maybe in orange using a chevron technique).
I want a cake similar to this with 2 layers and surrounded by rust, red and yellow daises(just imagine the bottom layer and silver plate are gone and that will be our cake). My mom will be making it.
And here is a sample of the invites I am working on. They will each be hand tied with an orange ribbon and have matching RSVP cards.
I'm so smitten with the invites. I love that I can do a lot of this stuff myself too. It will make it so much more personal, at least for me. I'm tossing around some favor ideas like maybe homemade buttermilk cookies in the shapes of daises in our colors with printed labels similar to our invites. Or maybe little boxes of my mom's homemade truffles all decorated in daises. Something food! I really have to make this worthwhile because I'm only doing it once!
