[If You're Not Into the Whole Brevity Thing...] Wedding Recap. Three Years Later.

May 02, 2013 13:10

I'm overdue for an entry about my April goals, but it's fitting that we postpone it because April didn't go so well. Instead, I'm just spending the morning looking at wedding pictures and being nostalgic, because it's my anniversary!

Brian and I got married on May 2, 2010. While we were dating I had originally picked May 3 because it was my grandmother's birthday, but by the time he finally proposed, it was too late for a 2009 wedding, and May 3 fell on a Monday in 2010. Oh well. I do like 05.02.10 because it looks like a math problem.

I'm not going to sugar coat it: Planning this wedding was one of the most awful experiences of my life. But the wedding itself was just lovely! I finally uploaded the pictures to facebook yesterday. You know...just three years late.

We got married at The Cloisters in Lutherville. It was gorgeous.

I cannot remember who did our hair and makeup. But I liked her.

As soon as I realized Brian was The One, I stopped cutting my hair because I wanted long hair in my wedding pictures.

I got away with these subversive blue toenails, although my mother bullied me into getting fake tips and a french manicure on my fingernails.

My friend Marlene made the beautiful jewelry that I and my bridesmaids wore. You can find more of her work at Big Circle Jewelry on Etsy.

This was actually my engagement ring, but I didn't see the point of having two rings, so I took it off and used it for the ceremony. Both rings are from Helzberg Diamonds.

Flowers were one of those things that I did NOT care about AT ALL. But then I saw a bouquet made of roses and stephanotis and thought it was the prettiest thing I'd ever seen. Perry Hall Florist did the flowers and they were great.

This dress. Ugh. My mother immediately thought it was "the one", and I loved that it was "only" $300. Then we had to spend $300 on alterations, which were a nightmare. We had to visit the seamstress's house four separate times, because the dress did NOT zip and she did NOT want to let it out. I think she was hoping I would just lose some weight between fittings. It worked out fine, except it was incredibly roomy in the bosom area.

My mother thought a harpist would add a touch of class to our wedding, so we hired Kris Snyder. I don't think I even got to hear any of her playing except the part when we were walking down the aisle, but I was told it was lovely.

Laura Cannon performed the ceremony. I was so excited to find her. She did a great job and she's an amazing person. (Also, I cannot believe how much her business has grown in the past three years!)

The photobooth was my one demand. It was expensive, but so much fun. Each photo strip printed out in duplicate, so the guest got to take one home as a favor, and paste the other into the guest book for us to keep. Also, we were able to see ALL the photos online...including the few that people didn't bother including in our guestbook for one reason or another. Ha. We used Majestic Photobooth Co. and I was very happy with them.

Also--we had shady fortune tellers! This sounds like something I would have dreamed up, but it was actually my mother's idea. I'm still not sure if people were terrified or amused, but I loved it. The tarot card reader told me that someone at my wedding was jealous of me and wanted my husband. Also, she said something really good would happen in four months. I still haven't found out who wants my husband, and I can't remember if anything good happened in September. I bet she thought I'd get pregnant right away, but I didn't.

Brian and I danced to Stevie Wonder's "I Believe (When I Fall in Love it Will be Forever)"

I am pretty sure my dad and I danced to "My Little Girl" by Tim McGraw. There were a few different songs we were considering. I do remember that I pretty much cried the whole time.

Brian and his mom danced to "A Song for My Son" by Mikki Viereck. I only remember that title because I found it in an email.

My sister Tabby caught the bouquet, and then her boyfriend made sure he caught the garter. I bought a Colorado Avalanche garter from Garters by Kristi.

Yia Yias Bakery made the cake. We had actually decided on a different company, but they were bought out by Yia Yias a few weeks before our wedding.

We didn't smash. Only because I was pretty sure that red dye would stain everything.

And we lived happily ever after.
