Yeah, he's being class-A patented Winchester Bastard, which is both his and John's default reaction to being in a situation that they can't control and that scares them (generally interacting with other people).

I much prefer Dean when he is being snarky, personally. But the messed up emotional bits are an important flaw, and to explore that, I kind of had to explore that. Deep down, Dean really believes that he is too broken to be fixed. Even if he doesn't admit that to himself.

And yet... This same man would stand in a puddle of water and electrocute himself to save two children from a demon in a basement. I think it's the dichotomy of his inner darkness versus his self-sacrifice that makes him such an interesting character.

That being said, I spent as much time wanting to smack him while I wrote this chapter than anything else. And I know what's going on better than anyone right now. ;-p

It's just as well Charlie is an empath really. Strong women often do end up forgiving what should really be seen as unforgivable transgressions, simply because they love the person concerned and can make excuses for it - here Charlie really does know, and can see that Dean's not reacting that way out of anything bad.

It's not obviously drawn in this chapter, but the corrolary of him being able to feel her means that she can feel him.

He doesn't think of himself as much more than a function or a commodity than a proper deserving person. It's really very sad.

He really does think of himself as a commodity. A good little soldier in his father's war.

And just because you know why someone's acting out doesn't mean you don't want to slap them.

I would imagine it would be doubly so in his case, given that he has the social skills of a wooden plank. Oh, so going to remember that comment until I get to immortalize it in print. If you do not mind. But it's so true.

well, I figured he'd be shouting emotionally anyhow

Oh, he's a goddamn hurricane...

No one expects the flipping great wodges of meta!

Right. Second time I paraphrased that quote today. And it's silly, really, because I was expecting the great wodges of meta. I should probably send you chapter outlines know, huh. So we can check on breaks.

Waves to D. Hugs you. Goes to drink some water in hopes dehydration will not set in due to tummy badness.

It does still count. Hullo, D. I suspect we might be meeting some day, and then I can put face to initial.

And, no. My innards are not. I woke up this morning feeling meh-er than usual.

I'd have thought so :), we're not as joined at the hip as when he lived downstairs (twice in two different apartment blocks :) ) but yeah, he'll be about :).

Excellent! ;-P

And danku for the hugs. I am now hoarding my supply... ;-P
