Summary: Set during the flashback in Becoming when Whistler finds Angel slumming it in New York. This is right after Whistler offers Angel the option to go to L.A. to help Buffy. Serena would be 5 years old at this time.

Manhattan spins around him, full of life. Yet he sits alone in a car, trying to make a decision. He rolls down a blackened window to look into the day.
As he stares, he notices a small blonde, blue-eyed girl. She must feel his gaze, because she turns and grins. She’s so young, and unafraid of the world. He watches as she blows him a kiss before skipping off to join her friends.
He suddenly wants to protect this girl, and thinks just maybe, he can do some good after all.
Making up his mind, he starts driving towards California.

Upon entering the bar, Faith was surprised to find that all eyes didn’t immediately look her way. They were transfixed on another target, a gorgeous girl with pale blonde hair spilling over her shoulders.
Unexpectedly, the only eyes to notice her were those of the mystery girl herself. The girl sent a half smile her way, reminding Faith of another blonde that stole everyone’s attention.
Despite her better judgment, she shoved past the onlookers and sat down at the bar. The girl looked so bubblegum sweet; Faith wanted to make her scream.
“I’m Serena.”
She was close enough to perfect.
