The end of semester has kinda snuck up on me, and with it a multitude of deadlines and dates I hadn't realised were so close. Next Sunday I'm driving down to take the JLPT, then two days later I fly to Tokyo for just shy of two weeks (both with Sorrel, tangentially enough. Though he's taking a higher level of the JLPT, and will likely spend much of his time in Tokyo actually in Akihabara, and I'll spend it wandering around taking photos of things I never got a chance to the first time around. Further tangentially, I need a new camera. Quickly!) Before I depart for Tokyo, though, I've got to hand in some kind of outline of my dissertation, a couple of pages that say "hey, I've read Nietzsche!" or something. I thought I had more time for that, and I'm spending most of my spare cramming kanji and vocabulary and kinda trying to remember how the hell Japanese works. Though given the strange format of the JLPT, I'm not too worried about kanji (my perennial weakness in Japanese, and my ultimate downfall from the course. You know, that and the hatred) since I don't actually have to write any of the damn things.
Been playing Mirror's Edge, which is a deeply frustrating game with very unreliable controls, but the graphics and concept are good enough to keep me going. It's kind of clawing its way up my internal rating system with each level, only to keep coming to a grinding halt when I find a new bit where the bitch refuses to wall run. Seriously, no other part of the game seems to give me trouble, but the wall running is a nightmare. She just never seems to want to differentiate between "woo, I shall jump to my death" and "I shall skillfully run along this wall and spring off to safety", what with the same button activating both abilities. If you call "leaping to your death" an ability. Also finally getting into Fallout 3. I started again with a new character (who looks kind of like 'if Mandy Morbid took to a post-apocalyptic wasteland') and am now pottering my way around radioactive Washington DC merrily. I would play a bit more now, but it gets kinda engrossing, and new Top Gear is on in a little while. I'll probably get distracted and just play bloody kanjibox some more on Facebook.
And now, I'm back in my apartment after being away for the weekend, and unfortunately like always I left the place in a state, so I'm going to try and tidy up whilst waiting for the Clarkson to appear.
Addendum: My next car is absolutely having a heated steering wheel. Driving up from home was a freaking nightmare, my hands frozen to the wheel.
