So, Obama won, and that's awesome. I still can't quite believe it. There was a point, when it seemed like the results were being delayed, that I was certain everything would fall apart 2004-style, but fortunately not.
Apart from that, I've not exactly been busy. I spend most of my free time being sucked into World of Warcraft prior to the release of Wrath of the Lich King, and the rest, sort of pottering about with university work. Being is going fine, though I've not exactly been attending (hurrah for not having a monkey on my back about that) but the actual content seems fairly reasonable, and the Fel Lecturer Elstein almost seems to be coming into his own, at least in tutorials. His lectures are still useless. Kant, on the other hand, is something I'm trying desperately to get out of. I cannot stand lecturers who get on my case about attendence, communication, etc, especially when they're doing it pre-emptively. I appreciate it when a module leader basically says "You're all adults. You know that if you don't attend you're going to miss things. You know if you submit things late you'll be penalised" and then just lets you get on with it. I don't mind if I've, say, missed a bunch of lectures in a row, or failed to submit a piece of work, that I then get an email asking why or instructing me to get my act together, but if someone starts chewing me out for failing to reply to an email quickly enough, or not attending one lecture, then my response is usually a big "Fuck you". The more someone prods me to do something, the less likely I am to do it. I also can't stand condescending and patronising lecturers, two qualities the Kant lecturer has in spades.
This weekend I'm taking off back to Kirkby again. Thursday night if possible. I really can't stand Leeds at the moment and I'm increasingly leaning towards just commuting up from my house there, especially now I've found a car park reasonably close to the university. It isn't cheap, and is utterly pointless so long as I'm in Leeds, but it'd be a lot cheaper than living here even if I spent a fair chunk of change on parking every other day. Might raid Next and get some more clothes. I'm embaressingly short of jeans and stuff for everyday wear, and I keep meaning to get more suits. And shoes. In Leeds I always put it off because I hate going into the town centre, whereas in Mansfield I can just duck into a retail park. And then on Sunday the guild is raiding Karazhan again, and it's back to Leeds to enjoy the delights of the university again. Joy.
Only a few weeks left, though, and then it's the Christmas break. And inexplicably, Japan.
