really should be updating more coz it seems like i have so much i want to say but i cba to form the post.. back to pre-twitter times then XD;;
one important post tho. the recent SOPA/PIPA/MU fiasco.
of course i'm against the whole SOPA/PIPA thing coz seriously nothing i use on the internet will be available once they start clamping things down? in a way i don't feel that effected as a make a point to actually go to a cinema to watch movies or buy the VCD/DVD and i don't have that large of a english song collection, but it's the fact that it just feels like if they actually are made into law, USA will effectively become the internet dictators?
i mean, who gave the USA right to close any foreign website??? in a way, that's worse than china and their firewall. at least it's just a firewall, not THAT WHOLE CHINESE GOVERNMENT HELLBENT ON CLOSING DOWN FACEBOOK. if it was any other country, USA would be the first to object because hello? internet freedom anyone? the government could use "potential copyright infringement" to close down any website they want, such as ones against their views etc... isn't that essentially dictatorship? only, you're ruling over the whole internet, and so the modern world?
and i really don't see how USA will have the power to close down a website which may be registered and hosted completely out of the US. it's like the US government calling me up and telling me to give up my DS because of copyright. it has no connection to the goddamn country!!! unless they start accusing me of using a china fake >_> which is stupid but whatever :P
but yeah... i'm really glad anon striked back. i know why the music industries and stuff are worried about copyright and all, but instead of trying to stop all this, why not use it to your advantage? you've already started with the digital downloads and stuff, why not step it up? online movie theatre? use the internet for your promotion?
i mean, i download anime to watch, but if i like it a lot? i buy merchandise. i buy the manga. i try my best to support the manga and company/mangaka that made the series. i know not everyone does it, but surely this small minority is better than absolutely nothing? with the current economy so bad, it's really hard to generate sales without giving people something first. even something like... "read the first 3 chapters of these manga for free! if you want more, buy it!" catch up with the rapid times? people aren't satisified any more with releases 1 or 2 days later, heck i expect torrents up within the hour >___>;;; as much as i don't use it, crunchyroll was really good with that. 1 to 2 hours after the broadcast, slightly better service if you pay. yeah i know not everyone likes it, but it's one way for the companies to survive. if you cut down everything, you wouldn't have people overseas buying your stupidly expensive DVDs coz they wouldn't know about it >___>;;;
okay i diverged, but basically instead of trying to go back to the old days of structured copyright and releases, it's the time to like... be fast and constant? i dunno what i'm saying any more :P
although, it's kinda amusing how as i typed that, it felt similar to something closer to home. for the HKers, you'll know what i'm talking about. pregnant women.
a bit of background first i guess. HK and china are really different. we're both under the rule of china, but we have our own legal system, benefits, china -> hk is essentially going out of the country etc. after the government relaxed the requirements needed for mainland chinese to come here (it used to be quite strict, now it's relatively easy) and spend money and bring our economy up, there's been a surge/increase of pregnant mainland chinese women coming here to give birth. since any child born here is automatically a HKPR (pernament resident) and we have better benefits etc (and i think the parents can come over to HK a lot easier), many pregnant women come over to give birth to a HKer, then leave once the kid is born (or similar).
this means the hundreds of pregnant women are using the public hospital's beds and facilities to give birth to a kid who most likely won't contribute anything to the city yet still be called hong kong chinese. the large increase in people also means that the local pregnant women don't have a space to give birth to their 'proper' HK kids. there's been a huge competition in public hospitals about bed space and all, and this is to give birth in their home city.
the HK government's been trying to stop this, coz it's really putting strain on the system but it's kinda hard... after the government said that if you want to give birth in HK you need a certified doctor's note on special paper etc, they started to push their way into the A&E departments of hospitals just before they're ready to give birth. you can't really say no to that, but then you're taking the space of people who might have actual emergencies.
there's been other ways trying to combat it, but they're all roundabout methods... i guess it's inhumane to turn away a pregnant woman? but don't they do that already with planes? oh i don't know.... it's just terrible XD
ON THAT TOPIC. OMG THE YOUTUBE VIDEO WITH THAT PROFESSOR BADMOUTHING HONG KONG. you would think he's fucking crazy or something. i don't really want to talk about it, but he just sounds like the product of chinese propaganda, which he most likely is. oh god don't let me start...
i think there was more i could write, but no let's leave it :P
