so i'm reading this book on bilingualism (code-mixing really) in hong kong.
i think it's printed in 1987?
there's this bit in the preface:
"To keep the study within manageable bounds, the accessible, fairly homogeneous, bilingual community of students at the University of Hong Kong was used, since this is one of the few groups in Hong Kong where one can rely (in most cases) on a reasonable bilingual proficiency, a pre-requisite for study of code choice."
now thinking back to this scene i saw at the travel agency where this woman just tried to find her co-worker coz a westerner came in and she had no idea what to say, i kinda laughed :x
