random-things-i-find-out-when-reading-linguistics-books-that-make-me-sleepy:
-GB used to be called merica? O__O;
-the king that started to make a common language (old english?) was called alfred. he was from wessex :D
please don't me why i noticed all these america details when reading about how english was formed...
although it is hard to describe english in simple terms... it started as a celtic language, got affected by the germanic language, but then most words are from the latin/french/greek language... big melting pot indeed...
