LOL it's really weird though, we just love the dynamic of Hijikata and Gintoki. (and the Gintoki x Hijikata (yes that pairing) is indeed popular in Japan)
If you read Gintama volume 7, you might shocked because the Hijikata original character design was today's Gintoki x3
