intinerious: basically all those alkanoyl crap...like the ethanoyl chloride, ethanoic anhydride - that stuff is ging acidic
intinerious: so...since the 2-hydroxybenzoic acid can act as BOTH alcohol and acid...then it depends on what you're reacting it with
intinerious: so if 2-hydroxyblah reacts with the alkanoyl crap..then it acts as an alcohol..as esterification requires an alcohol and acid
intinerious: for wintergreen, the 2-hydroxyblah reacts with an alcohol...since 2-hydroxyblah has the acidic propertie as well; then it acts as the acid.
