"Music for titty bars"
So the other day I finally got to fulfill a goal of mine... I made out to the Dead Milkmen. Now, I know a lot of you out there in Livejournal land don't really understand why that might be a goal, so let me explain.
I love the Dead Milkmen. They're one of my alltime favorite bands. They're fun, they're smart, and they're from Philly, and since I'm originally from Philly (I live near enough that I still like to claim it in places where people won't call me on it, i.e. LJ), I have a fair amount of pride.
That's point one.
Point two has to do with my ex. Sally was very much into the whole idea of storybook romance and other such crap. I like romance, don't get me wrong, but storybook romance, a definition of the such that is not based in normalcy but rather on a viewpoint you gained from being a lonely child, doesn't work. I don't want to get married at 21, I don't need to move in with you six months into a relationship, and I'm not going to cut my hair or wear clothes that make you happy and stop going to shows and drop all my friends in order to make this relationship work. Needless to say, she never got the concept of me as an individual and the relationship didn't work. It's a shame, really.
So, yeah. Sally was really into the music during sex/making out/etc. that was, in her mind, appropriate for such actions. This would always end up being Mazzy Star or U2 or REM or Sarah Mclachlen or some such thing. That's fine, I guess. It's just that I don't listen to those groups very often and I wasn't always in the mood to hear them, especially while stuff was going on. :-P to romantic music, I say.
So that's one of the many reasons I'm happy in my new relationship. I can do what I want (Raeven comes to shows and events and whatnot else), I can hang out with who I want (she's friends with many of my friends), I can look how I want (she likes my mohawk), and I can listen to what I want when I want to (we get along pretty well musically, and the two of us are both pretty open minded). That is why making out to the Dead Milkmen the other day was so awesome.
