.. was IMMENSE. When I got home on thursday night my face was hurting and my head was aching from smiling and laughing so much. It was so worth that horrible ride on the central line.
We got there pretty early and then they let people in earlier than they said they would. We all got put through into the BBC canteen thingy and had a drink and some biscuits. Some lady came over to us and asked us to come to a Top Of The Pops filming, but not to see any music... just to stand around in the studio cheering while they filmed the links to some TOTP Italian special. If you went to that though you got priority tickets to a future TOTP show of your choice. We passed on that one. Anyway then they called us all to que up and make our way through to the studio (I think it was studio B.. can't really remember) we were numbers 97, 98 and 99 from 250 people I think. It's first come first serve with the seats (except for the special people in the closer seats in front of the cameras... the heads you see on tv) so as you go in they start filling up from the best seats first. We were right in the middle... middle row of seats and middle of the stage.
Rob Rouse was doing the warm ups. Something about he was on the show last week so he was doing this as a favour this week. He's incredibly funny.. they had to record some laughs and claps while he was on but because he was so funny anyway people were laughing so much and the clapping was genuine. (He came on during the break too to keep us entertained)
And then it started. Jimmy came on first to film a couple of the opening parts. Then each person came on and sat down.. then Jimmy came running back on for the filmed bit and they all got introduced again while pulling silly faces. Patrick's was by far the best. And then the rounds started as you see them on the TV but with alot cut out, obviously.
I never realised they cut that much out of the show, I mean I knew the show was edited of course. But it went on for about 2 hours, so they must have to cut loads out, and that must be very hard with all the great stuff to choose from. Seriously seriously funny stuff though. Patrick is a very funny man. Watching it on TV on friday night alot of his banter was edited out though, guess it was just a little bit too rude to be aired. And he'd had a proper sticky patch with Janet Street Porter about that Elton bumming jokes bit so they cut all that. Everytime a cut down joke came on I was laughing more than anyone else and then I had to explain why.
I was surprised at how many times Jimmy has his make up fixed. But he's joking away while it's being done anyway so it's not like we were all sitting around waiting for him.
The only boring bit was at the very end when they had to do pick ups and a couple of re-takes and that. But even some of that was funny because they'd be joking around while doing it.
I would definately go see it again if I got the chance.
