Save a cow, kill a cowboy.

I've just returned from a voice for animals meeting with a renewed hatred for cowboys, rodeos, Western Canada, and the Southern States.....and pigeon shooters, mexico, spain, and um...people that hunt deers with nets. ANYWAYS.

We watched a video filmed from 2000-2003 behind the scenes of many famous, popular "state fair" rodeos and such in Texas, Arkansa, and right along the Mexican border. It is strictly against the rules to use electrical prods, but that didn't seem to phase the cowboys. The ones manning the cattle chutes all had them in their back pockets. They would grab and twist the steer/horses/calves tail and twist it, then pull it through the bars and rake it back and forth over the metal. With the hidden cameras, you could see them clearly take the cattle prods out, half way up their sleeves (they're actually quite small...hand held) and deliver, multiple times, 8000 volts of electricity into the animals flanks, tail, and genitals. Then they just slip it back into their pocket, and continue kicking, spuring, and "raking" the animals. Veterinarians say that cattle and horses are much more sensitive then humans to electric shock, and everyone I know that has shocked themselves with a cattle prod says it feels like you're being stabbed. Could you imagine?

It's not just in the chutes that the animals are tortured...in order to make them buck, they have a strap around their genitals. Sure, they're made of soft materials...but I really don't think a guy would like it anymore if you strung up their dick with velvet rather then rope. It still hurts, you idiots! It doesn't matter WHAT you're tying it with....They say that it doesn't hurt? They say that their spurs are blunt? Then why is it that the animal STOPS bucking when the flank strap is loosened, or when the rider lets up on the spurring?

Why is it, that when I watch rodeo footage, I see cruelty? Even if none of the rules were broken, it would still be cruel in my eyes. If someone came over to my dog, made him run down the street, chasing him down the street in their car, roped him around the neck (clotheslining him at 90 miles an hour) ran to him, Picked him up, slammed him onto his side, and tied his legs up...I would beat their fucking skulls in, and they would be charged with animal cruelty! (And I would be charged with murder). Anyone who wouldn't react that way to cat or dog abuse obviously doesn't love their animal very much. So why is it suddenly ok when it is happening to steers and 3 month old calves? Why does abuse suddenly turn into sport, and why do otherwise intelligent people think it's ok?

I watch people watching the rodeo, see them cheer and laugh as animal after terrified animal is chased down, knocked down, and strung up. Where is the sport? How is this fair? This is just a cruel detour to the slaughterhouse. What kind of genetic reject likes this? Who wants to watch this abuse? No wonder there is such a rise in domestic violence! We are teaching our kids that lives are worthless. These "cowboys" are not carrying on western tradition. They are not, for the most part, ranchers who merely show their "skills" as a pastime. These are people that call themselves "Professional Rodeo Cowboys". They are doing this for money, fame, and a cozy retirement. They are merely showman in yet another form of entertainment.

Put your cat or dog in this animals place. Wouldn't you consider it cruelty?

Anybody who knows horses knows that these are not happy animals.

Oh no, spurs don't hurt at all.

Animal rights activists visiting horses behind the scenes. Wild, bucking, and crazy? Not at all...

The prod. Easy to conceal.

So, with that, I leave you something to think about. Anybody that goes to, and enjoys the rodeo gets no respect from me.
