"Let's go swimming!"

"It's hot in here, isn't it?"

"You're not seriously wearing pants in this weather, are you? Well, I'm not!"

Riku had just about had it up to here. How many excuses could one person make to take their clothes off? Well, on a tropical island, the answer to that was many.

And Sora was using just about every single one, with a frequency and persistence that bordered on ruthlessness. He can't know what he's doing, Riku thought rather faintly, as Sora pulled an arm across his chest in a languid stretch. He's far too brickheaded. He can't know what he's doing to me.

Sora let his hands fall and they came to rest on the waistband of his swimsuit. He heard the silence behind him intensify and knew that Riku was watching - avidly.

But seriously. Riku joked about Sora having a brick for a brain, but what about his own? Did he seriously think Sora was doing all this accidentally?

Sora twisted around and caught Riku's eyes. "Come and swim with me."

"No," Riku replied, too quickly. He'd been avoiding putting himself in a potentially embarassing situation - so he told himself, but the truth was probably that he'd simply enjoy himself far too much. "You go on. I'm reading."

"You're always reading!" Sora pouted and crossed his arms. "C'mon, Riku! It's our last day of summer vacation!" Sora wasn't looking forward to going back to school after years of adventuring - not at all. But at least he had the small consolation that Riku would be just as behind as he was - although, from the way he'd had his nose buried in a book these past few weeks, that wasn't going to mean a thing.

Riku sighed. As if he could concentrate, on anything, with temptation personified walking around shirtless and brushing up against him and eating ice cream in ways that sent Riku's brain straight to the gutter - well, if it hadn't been there already. "That's true. Very observant of you."

Observant my ass, Sora thought. "Riku. Come in the water or I'm going to drag you."

"Oh, you're going to drag me, huh?" He smirked. "I'd like to see you try."

Hoshit. Famous last words, Riku thought as strong hands clamped around his upper arm. He was stronger than Sora, but his friend had the advantage of surprise. Suddenly Riku found himself standing at the water's edge, facing one very scantily-clad Sora.

"Well..." Sora toyed with Riku's zipper, and wondered why he was suddenly so nervous. He'd made up his mind to seduce Riku a long time ago, it wasn't like this was anything different. "You can't wear your jacket to go swimming."

Riku stiffened as Sora touched him, and his mind ran around in dizzy circles, leaving him momentarily speechless. Sora unzipped the vest slowly, then slid it over his shoulders at an even more agonizingly slow pace. But still Riku was frozen in place, unable to think.

"...or your shirt," Sora whispered, and wished he could speak louder, more confidently. If Riku was doing this instead of him, he'd probably be terribly eloquent. But he was Sora, and he was doing things his way.

Riku could feel Sora's hands lingering over his muscles as he pushed the shirt away, and still he didn't move. He was far too scared to move.

"Riku?" Sora's voice was barely audible now, but he held his ground, hands resting on Riku's hips.

Riku didn't know if he could talk, but he found his voice acting of its own accord. "What is it, Sora?" No, no. That was all wrong. Where was all the emotion he knew he felt?

"If I told you... that I loved you..." Sora couldn't meet his eyes. "...What would you say?"

Riku felt his eyes snap open, and he hadn't known they were closed. "I..." he trailed off. "Do you?" he whispered softly.

Sora nodded, eyes focused on the sand beneath his feet.

Suddenly he felt cool fingers slide under his chin, and somehow they burned... Riku lifted Sora's chin until they were staring into each other's eyes, and fought to keep his mind on track. "...I've always loved you, Sora," he murmured, and there it was - finally his voice sounded warm, the way he'd always wanted to sound, full of emotion and passion and truth.

Sora's eyes widened. "...Really?"

"Really really." Riku smiled.

... "Riku!!" Sora glared at him. "Why didn't you ever tell me!"

Riku blinked. "I... didn't want to weigh you down... I didn't..."

"You were scared," Sora pointed out.

Sigh. "Yes. Of course I was scared, Sora!" Now it was Riku's turn to glare. "What if you hated me, what if it destroyed our friendship?!"

"You're so stupid, Riku!!" Sora shook him by the shoulders. "I've been trying to get your attention for weeks!"

Riku blushed darkly. "Y-you had it. I don't think I read a single sentence all summer."

Sora threw up his hands. "You see what I mean?!" Then he moved forward, slid his hands around Riku's neck, and pulled him in for a long kiss.

Riku was still blushing. "Sorry," he murmured against Sora's lips, and wound his hands around his waist. "I do love you, Sora... more than anything."

"I love you, too," Sora muttered, then pressed their bodies together and kissed him again. "So... will you still come in the water with me, or do I have to drag you?"

Riku snorted. "It's the last day of summer vacation, Sora... why are you standing on the beach instead of swimming?"

"Gee, I don't know..." Sora pretended to think about it. "Maybe because I'm trying to convince the one I love that we should be together forever and ever?"

"Ah." Riku grinned. "Luckily, that job is successfully completed, leaving the rest of our day open to the possibilities." He laced his fingers in Sora's, and gestured to the ocean. "Together, we're invincible!"

"Let's race to the horizon!"

"You're on!"
