Summary: Yoseob is a steward, Kikwang a lost passenger. Can they get to know each other on a plane? And could Yoseob maybe be Kikwang’s escape?
The next morning, Yoseob awoke early so e decided to get up earlier. Kikwang was still fast asleep at his side, and Yoseob just couldn’t bring himself to wake him up, he decided to let him sleep, since he looked so serene.
Yoseob quietly got out of bed, his toes only touching the cold floor before putting his feet down. It was still early; it wasn’t even daylight outside yet. The sun was nowhere to be seen and the sky was still painted grey-blue.
Yoseob carefully pulled the covers over Kikwang’s body that was still lying perfectly still. Yoseob then walked over to the other side of the double bed, slowly so that he would not wake him up.
He then gently caressed Kikwang’s arm, his fingertips tickling across the skin before he placed a soft kiss onto his smooth shoulder.
He smiled to himself, taking a last glance at his lover before he tip toed out of the room, carefully closing the door behind him.
As he walked to the bathroom, he decided not to get dressed just yet; he only put on a warm hoodie that hung over the bath tub. Yoseob had noticed his house was rather chilly in the morning, especially this early.
At least he didn’t have to worry about Kikwang being cold since he had tucked him in warmly.
He then went downstairs where he made himself a cup of coffee. He just loved the smell of freshly made coffee in the morning. He sipped from his cup, while holding it with both hands.
Yoseob gently blew into the cup, because it was still a little bit too hot to drink from and he didn’t feel like burning his throat this early.
He walked over to the window while still holding his cup. He looked forward to surprising Kikwang with what he had planned for the two of them. He loved it and Kikwang would too, he was sure of that. Only five days left, so there was still some time for him to tell his lover.
They had all the time in the world.
While Kikwang was still asleep, Yoseob came up with the wonderful idea of making him breakfast. He didn’t know what the reason was for Kikwang’s zoning out, but he did have a pretty good idea about what this all could be about. His father.
Kikwang probably missed him, or maybe he was feeling guilty about what happened at the airport earlier. Whatever it was, Yoseob did understand perfectly. He only wished Kikwang would just talk to him about it.
Because he knew they would both feel a lot better if he did.
Yoseob would be lying to himself if he didn’t admit that he was indeed feeling slightly worried, maybe that’s why the strange feeling in his stomach didn’t seemed to disappear. What if Kikwang was having second thoughts about him, about them?
He didn’t even want to think about it, so he decided not to either. Maybe Kikwang would talk to him soon, Yoseob couldn’t really know at this point. All he could do was wait.
He started drinking from his coffee, now that the temperature was finally drinkable. Once it was empty, he put the empty cup in the sink before he started thinking about what to make Kikwang for breakfast.
The choice was soon made, he chose pancakes. For two reasons; one: he was good at making them, and two: who didn’t like pancakes?
So he started searching all of his cupboards first for the needed ingredients. Once he had successfully found them, he got to work. About a half an hour later, Yoseob had managed to make about 16 perfect pancakes, he did burn a few others since it’s been a while he made someone pancakes.
But he didn’t mind at all, since after all it was for Kikwang.
He then placed the pancakes, along with white and brown sugar; since he didn’t know which sugar he preferred, onto a tray. He poured him a cup of coffee, and added some milk to it. He put the cup onto the tray as well.
After that, he gave himself a moment to glance at the kitchen. It was a mess and he really couldn’t deny the burned smell that lingered in the air any longer, but he would clean up later; Kikwang’s pancakes couldn’t turn cold.
Yoseob carefully took hold of the tray with both hands and started to slowly, step by step, walk up the stairs. Once arrived at his bedroom, he cursed himself quietly for closing the door behind him earlier.
He let go with one hand to open the door quickly while he tried to stop the other one from shaking while holding the tray. Somehow, maybe luck was on his side, he actually managed to open the door without dropping anything.
Yoseob made a mental note that he wouldn’t forget to take of his hoodie as soon as he put down the tray. It was way too hot to be wearing a hoodie while doing things like this, like baking your boyfriend pancakes.
Just as he thought, his lover was still fast asleep, looking just as peaceful as when he left the bed. This only added up to the effect of his surprise.
Yoseob proceeded to carefully put down the tray onto his nightstand first, before taking his hoodie of next, throwing it on his side of the bed.
He then sat down on the bed, next to Kikwang. He leaned downwards, pressing his lips onto the other’s own. Kikwang slightly stirred and pursed his lips while still asleep. And in response, Yoseob kissed him again.
Kikwang’s lips soon returned the kiss before his sparkly brown eyes slowly fluttered open.
“Mmm, good morning Seobie.” He muttered while a smile appeared onto his lips. Yoseob smiled back.
“Good morning sleepy beauty, come on, sit up. I have a surprise for you.” He chimed cheerfully, feeling excited as he quickly scrambled off the bed before Kikwang could pull him close.
Kikwang looked surprised, but he did oblige and sat up as he was told to. As the sweet smell of pancakes reached his nose, he already had an idea of what Yoseob his surprise was about.
Yoseob then proudly put down the tray onto Kikwang‘s lap now that he was sitting up decently. “Look what I made you.” He said, hoping that Kikwang would be just as happy. And Kikwang’s face told him he was.
His whole face seemed to light up at seeing what Yoseob had made for him.
“You’re such a sweetheart.” He said, pulling Yoseob forward to thank him for his surprise with a loving kiss on the lips.
Kikwang’s kiss somehow made Yoseob feel slightly dizzy, his head seemed to be spinning; or maybe it was the whole room. This wasn’t the first time he had experienced something like this before when he was with Kikwang.
Maybe that was only the effect that Kikwang seemed to have on him.
“You’re welcome.” Yoseob said, a few seconds after the ‘thank you’ kiss, when his head almost fully stopped spinning.
Kikwang smiled as he wiped off a little bit of flour with his finger that somehow had landed onto Yoseob’s cute button nose while making the pancakes. He chuckled to himself as he pulled him close.
“I love you sweetie.” He whispered, his breath brushing against Yoseob his hair as he spoke. Yoseob felt giddy into his warm, safe embrace.
“I love you too.” He answered. Then he sat up straight again, pulling himself out of Kikwang’s embrace. He didn’t want Kikwang to forget about his surprise he had for him.
“Come on, eat up.” Yoseob then said, gesturing to the tray onto his lap. And Kikwang listened. He gestured Yoseob to come sit next to him and they shared the pancakes Yoseob had baked.
Kikwang thought they were really good, he was about to tell him but he smiled instead and opened his mouth as Yoseob’s hand came closer, to feed him a piece of pancake covered in brown sugar. Next up was a piece with white sugar.
Kikwang did have to admit to himself that he felt a little guilty towards Yoseob. He knew he had noticed the way he was quieter, the way he was often sunken in thought. The reason for that was at the moment his cell phone.
Ever since his father followed them, even in the airport, he couldn’t stop often thinking about him. About what all happened. And actually he didn’t really want it to be like this, never seeing his family again.
Yoseob his garden was his escape, but the feeling of missing his father, the need to make it alright again remained. Someday, he really wanted his father to meet Yoseob, to see how amazing he really is. He wanted his father to see his garden, to see the place that gave him strength.
The strength to talk to his father.
His father had called him numerous times since he was here, with Yoseob. At first, it were two missed calls, and then there were eight. After that, when the number came awfully close towards twenty-five, he shut off his phone.
But he still knew that he had to go back, and all of this thinking he did had absolutely nothing to do with Yoseob. He really did love him and it was a fact that Kikwang had never been as sure about anything in his life before then as he was sure about Yoseob.
But he couldn’t, he shouldn’t go around it much longer. In order for him to move on, to build further onto the foundations he and Yoseob had, he inevitably needed to go back and talk to his father.
Because after all, everyone did deserve a second chance. He would just go there, without expecting anything, without any intentions, he would be honest to his father. About his love for another guy and how he saw his own future.
After that, he would see where it goes. If it was solved or not between them, he would go back to Yoseob, without any doubt.
Now there were only two questions left, and those were the following: one: how was he going to tell Yoseob about this? And two: When was he going to leave? The only thing he did know was that it had to be as soon as possible, because the longer Kikwang took, the harder it would eventually get to leave.
So he made a note, a promise to himself that he would tell Yoseob today. He couldn’t keep lying that there was nothing wrong, that everything was okay. That just wasn’t fair to Yoseob at all.
Yoseob smiled to himself as his surprise went great, it was successful. Together, they ate all the pancakes Yoseob tried his hardest on. Apart from a knife, a cup and a plate, along with a little bit of sugar the tray was empty.
The tray was soon shoved onto the floor and the rest of the morning was spent cuddling in bed, holding tight onto each other.
It wasn’t until three thirty in the afternoon, Kikwang decided to tell him; more likely until he had mustered up the courage to be ready to tell him. He could only hope for Yoseob not taking it the wrong way.
It was a really beautiful day outside and they were spending the day together in Kikwang’s most favorite place in the world; Yoseob’s garden. They were sitting in the soft green grass, covered safely in the shade of the trees. But the sunlight still seemed to fall through the leaves, illuminating certain parts of Yoseob’s hair, giving it a beautiful shine.
“Yoseob, there’s something I’ve been meaning to tell you.” Kikwang started, licking his lips right away as they suddenly seemed awfully dry. Why was he so nervous about this?
Yoseob looked up from the book that he was reading.” Hmm, yes?” He answered so relaxed Kikwang couldn’t understand, since he was feeling the exact same opposite.
“It’s about my father.” Kikwang said, now having Yoseob his full attention; which was good before he turned back to his book.
Yoseob just looked at him, with an unreadable expression onto his face, waiting for Kikwang to speak while he licked his lips again. “He has been calling me, and I feel like I need to go see him, so we can talk about all this.” He said while fumbling with the blanket they were sitting on.
“When?” Was the first thing Yoseob said, it was the first thing that came to mind. He didn’t want Kikwang to leave, not now, not at all. What about his surprise? Would he be back in time for it? Would he even come back?
Kikwang pulled him closer, after seeing the worry onto his face, he nuzzled his nose into Yoseob’s soft, and sun- warmed hair. “I think as soon as possible, I don’t really want to postpone this for too long.” He said.
Yoseob nodded, he couldn’t say a word. He did understand, this was the reason for Kikwang’s behavior. His thought had been right about it all along.
“So when are you going to come back?” Yoseob asked, his voice was shaking more than he wanted it too, as he casted his eyes downwards.
Kikwang gently took hold of his shoulders.
“You don’t have to worry Yoseob, I love you. If my father and I can work this out, or even if we can’t, it doesn’t matter. At least I can say that I tried. Either way, I will come back to you, and that’s a promise.” He said, looking Yoseob sincerely in the eyes, trying to read his expression and just hope Yoseob would take anything the wrong way.
Yoseob nodded at his words, he knew Kikwang was speaking the truth, he just couldn’t help but slightly worry. Worrying was only human.
“Okay.” He then just said cause he didn’t really knew what to say, and it seemed too quiet if he didn’t answer him.
“Please trust me Yoseob, I will come back.” Kikwang said, gently cupping Yoseob’s face. Yoseob nodded again at that, he did trust Kikwang. He just didn’t trust his father.
Yoseob then closed his eyes, and let Kikwang kiss him while he tried to block out every though that made him worry. They loved each other, and nothing would go wrong.
That night, they made love and Kikwang actually made Yoseob feel like there was no reason to worry about a thing in the world.
But Yoseob’s bad feeling got only worse when Kikwang’s as soon as possible turned out to be much sooner than Yoseob had thought- then he had hoped for.
By the time he woke up the next morning, Kikwang had already left his bed, suddenly it seemed a whole lot more empty. Yoseob was immediately fully awake; he even felt a slight form of panic coming up.
He wasn’t gone yet, was he? He couldn’t, not without even telling him.
Suddenly Kikwang appeared into the doorway. “I see you’re awake.” He said, with a smile as he walked over to Yoseob and greeted him with a kiss.
The first thing Yoseob noticed was that Kikwang was already fully dressed, and he wasn’t dressed casually at all. He was wearing a fancy dark grey suit, a white -blue striped shirt with a few opened buttons, and a purple satin tie draped loosely around his neck. He even smelled great too.
He looked like he had walked straight out of a magazine.
Yoseob looked past him, onto the hallway; he could feel his heart stop for a while as his eyes fell onto Kikwang’s suitcase that was standing there.
It struck him like lightning, and strangely enough he hadn’t expect it to hurt this much.
Kikwang was leaving.
“Are you going?” Yoseob asked, but he already knew the answer. Kikwang nodded hesitantly.” Yes, the sooner I leave, the sooner I’ll be back. The taxi is waiting for me outside but I didn’t
want to leave before saying bye to you.” He said, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
Kikwang pulled him into a tight hug, not wanting to let go of him at all. Yoseob hugged him back as tightly as he could, since he didn’t want him to leave.
Then they broke apart, hesitantly letting go of one another before kissing each other firmly on the lips. The kiss seemed to last forever, neither of them wanted to break the kiss since they didn’t want to see this as a goodbye.
Yoseob was the first to break away, even if he didn’t want too at all. “Okay, go ahead, go talk this out. But I swear, if you don’t come back soon enough, I’ll come looking for you.” Yoseob said, laughing a bit at the end of his own sentence.
Kikwang nodded, squeezing Yoseob’s hand into his own. “I will, I’ll be back before you know it.”
He brought Yoseob’s hand to his mouth, placing a kiss onto his hand. “I promise.” He whispered against his hand.
With that, Yoseob couldn’t do anything to stop Kikwang any longer. He walked over to the hallway, grabbed his suitcase and turned around to look at Yoseob once again. He blew him a kiss and with that, he was gone.
Yoseob ran to the window to catch a glimpse of Kikwang before he really left. He hoped to god that he would be back in time. In time for his surprise.
Kikwang looked up at the window, when he noticed Yoseob standing there, he waved at him and Yoseob waved back.
It hurt Yoseob to watch him leave, but he knew he had to trust him. After all Kikwang had promised numerous times. He would come back.
Yoseob would wait for him, and he knew he would miss him as well. Since that was only a normal feeling when you aren’t with that one person you love.
He couldn’t do anything else but hope. Because hope was the only thing stronger then fear.
