Kittens are doing GREAT. They are both eating kibble mixed with canned food, and snacking on plain kibble. They are both pooping solid poops. Boy Kitten weighs a couple ounces shy of two pounds - he is going to be HUGE. Girl Kitten is just over a pound and a half, she's going to be a much more normal sized lady cat. See how well I have resisted naming them? Both kittens have homes to go to, probably this weekend if we can work it out. Girl Kitten is going to a newlywed couple Nicole works with, they're really nice and I'm glad they're going to start working on their fur-family right away. Boy Kitten has two possible homes! First home may not be acceptable as they have made noises about having an outdoor cat, which is not the home I want my rescue baby to go to. Outside cats get hurt, get diseases, get in fights.. Some cats cannot acclimate to indoors after being outside kitties, so why not just keep the cat inside? Speaking of city cats, mind you, barn cats are an entirely different situation. Anyway, so Nicole is supposed to be getting clarification on the situation there, and if they are unwilling to have a cat without making it earn its keep (the husband apparently wants something to hunt the gophers in their yard??), then Boy Kitten will go to a woman I work with who already has cats and is very good to them. We have an appointment on Thursday for leukemia and FIV testing and vaccinating, then they will be ready to go whenever the homes are ready for them. I wouldn't mind keeping them another few weeks, to see them grow up a little more - they have already grown soooo much, and have gone from little shaky fluffballs to active happy kittens, and I want to see how their little personalities develop. But I do not want more cats in my house, and so they need to go to their new homes so they can start bonding with new mommies and daddies. They're socialising so well! They come running when I open the door and climb my legs, and they will curl up with us while we watch TV and nap. And they've discovered their purr boxes and are really quite loud. The resident cats will be happy to have their mommies all for them again, though.
