and the last of it

Jan 05, 2010 20:00

This was the year that I started the A-Z Author Challenge, knowing I wouldn't be able to pull it off in one year but trying all the same. I made it up to Q - which is pretty good for my usual reading habits - and will be continuing through the challenge this year, picking up at R once I read Watchmen.
(The movie of which will be premeiring on HBO this weekend and, having finally purchased a copy of the book, Chris and I are reading it in preparation to finally see the film.)

  20. 12/13-12/31 - Black and Blue by Anna Quindlen (369 pages)
Year End Stats:
* Total number of books read: 20
* Total number of pages read: 6416
* In Translation: The Neverending Story (German), Night Watch (Russian), A Personal Matter (Japanese)
* New-to-me authors: Everyone but Rowling and Gaiman, as the whole point of the A-Z Challenge is to read someone new.
* Newest Book: The Music Teacher, 2009
* Oldest Book: I Am Legend, 1954
* Shortest Book: Tales of Beedle the Bard, no shock there, at 111 pages.
* Longest Book: The Time Traveler's Wife at 546 pages.
* Fastest read: Not counting Tales of Beedle the Bard and Coraline at 1 and 2 day reads, respectively, I Am Legend and The Girl Next Door tie at 4 days each.
* Slowest read: The Neverending Story took me 67 days, without legitimate things getting in the way of reading time. (The Time Traveler's Wife took me 41 days, but that's only because I had to put it down for almost a month to knit a wrap for a wedding.)
* Favorite Read: I had the most fun reading Little Brother and Gods Behaving Badly. Wasn't really blown away by either, though, which is why I can't pick just one.
* Least Favorite Read: The actual read, I'd have to go with The Neverending Story, though for the book itself I'd have to go with The Friday Night Knitting Club. It was just so cliched and trite - there was just nothing new there.

And, for curiosity's sake, I kept a tally of how much each book cost. The total cost of this year's reading list was $76.18.
