OOC: scanlations
I've got a bit of internet access now so this affords another opportunity to further the scanlation updates! Now with pages in technicolour.
As always, the manga belongs to Rumiko Takahashi and her publishers and the scanlations were done by Kuro of www.ear-tweak.
Flashback/exposition time. Waaaay back when, the Shikon jewel was created when a miko (Midoriko) was fighting a mass of youkai and couldn't defeat them so she expelled their souls and her and crystalized them into the jewel, hence the power. Midoriko's spirit kind of awakened and agrees with Kikyou that the jewel should be completed in order to stop Naraku by purifying it. This causes a bit of a problem since her spirit keeps freezing up Kouga's legs to get this accomplished. :P Because of that the spirits of the Yourouzoku ancestors offered their protection when Kouga got the Goraishi as a weapon. (That makes the Yourouzoku sound a bit like the Mafia. 'The familypack offers you it's protection.')
It occurs to me that I should explain the random baby in the bottom left panel. He is an 'offspring' of Naraku. More specifically, he's Naraku's expelled heart and his only weakness. Kill it and you kill the big bad. He's inside Mouryoumaru (the freaky looking foe) who was created from a mish-mash of youkai to serve as a shield. However, evil little baby has plans of his own and wants to become the Big Bad in his own right. Hence Mouryoumaru trying to snatch up shards.
Now the protagonist and his rival must join forces. For great justice!
They're none too happy about it either. :3
