Trying hard not to fall )

Fred always felt a little embarrassed about baring herself to others, especially because she always felt self-conscious about her body. To her, it had always seemed her breasts were too small or her hips too narrow. Next to someone like Cordy, she thought herself rather plain and forgettable. Even when she had been with Charles.

But looking up at Rupert when he called her beautiful, she actually felt that she was, especially when his hands ran over her body and his mouth enclosed over her breast. Whimpering, she grabbed onto him, holding him close, not wanting to let go for fear that this might somehow all fade away. One last hallucination before actually dying.

She knew, though, that it couldn't be - not with the way he was making her feel, between her legs, through her body, in her heart. Once he stripped her jeans off, she closed her eyes, a shudder running through her as his tongue touched her.

"Oh God," she gasped as she felt his finger thrust inside her. "Rupert..."

Her hips lifted up off the bed, pressing against his hand. She thought that she might fall even though she was safe, far from the edge of the bed, but it still felt that way. She was falling, and Rupert was the one causing her to do so with his fingers and his tongue and his heart and his mind and everything about him.

"I--too much, too much," she tried to tell him as the sensations started to overwhelm, almost painfully, but her voice just came out a squeak, and a moment later, she gave a breathy cry as she came hard against his mouth.

He was afraid to stop. Afraid that if he wasn't connected to her somehow, she'd disappear - another cruel joke played by the Powers. Giles continued to lick and move his fingers inside of her, his erection almost becoming painful. He groaned at the noises she was making, and prayed she wouldn't stop, for it reminded him she was still there, with him.

When she came, he eagerly lick up her warmth, moaning at her taste. He wanted to continue for the rest of the night, knowing there was a chance she would be gone by morning. But he eventually stopped and crawled up the bed before taking off his jeans. He knew he needed to be inside of her.

Once the jeans were off, he moved between her legs. He softly stroked her face and leaned down for a soft kiss. The emotions he was feeling at the moment were becoming a bit overwhelming. One night. He was only going to have one night with her, and then he would become the shell of a man he was before she came into his life.

He pressed forward, feeling himself move into her tightness. Groaning, he squeezed his eyes shut for a moment before looking down at her. She was so beautiful, lying there under him. "Fred," he whispered as he started to slowly move inside of her. "I...I want you to know that...that no matter what happens in the morning, you're the best thing that has ever happened to me. And I'll never forget you."

As she came down from her orgasm, panting heavily, Fred felt Rupert raising up above her and opened her eyes, looking up at him as he got out of his jeans. She smiled at the sight of him - he was so beautiful, the expression on his face making him look at least ten years younger than he had when she had met him in the alley. This - them together - seemed to agree with him. It was what both of them needed. They needed each other.

When he moved between her legs again, she instictively spread them a bit wider and reached up to embrace him as he brought his lips down to hers. She felt her breath catching in her throat, knowing that he was thinking about her leaving him, even though she couldn't actually hear the words. She could feel it in his emotions, taste it in his kiss. She wanted to tell him that she didn't want to leave him, that she couldn't bear the thought of having to leave him behind, but she couldn't make her voice work.

Instead, her head fell back and all she could utter was a soft moan as she felt him push inside her. It was overwhelming, feeling him thrusting into her, hearing his words. She felt tears start to roll down her cheeks as she wrapped her arms and legs around him and held onto him tight.

"I don't want to leave you," she told him, finding her voice even though it was strained. "I can't."

Giles saw the tears in Fred's eyes as she pulled him closer. "Don't cry, love," he softly said as he continued to press himself inside of her. It felt so good, and right, as if they were meant to do this. Giles had never felt this connected to anyone before and as he looked down at Fred's face. Her cheeks were flushed, and stained with her tears.

Slipping her arms off his back, Giles pushed them above her head, and linked his fingers with hers. He wanted to say something to comfort her but he knew nothing he could say would make things right. She had a calling in this life, and he didn't. Giles' job was to stay and being a nothing for the Council. But he needed to say what he felt in his heart.

"If you could stay, Fred," he started, his voice strained with emotion, "I would've fallen in love you. How can someone not love you?" Tears came to his eyes as he felt himself start to tighten. He tried to hold back but she was just so tight, and he was battling his emotions too much to stop it. And with a strangled cry, he came inside of her as his tears slid down his face.

Fred didn't want to cry, but she couldn't help it, even though the feel of him inside of her was the most wonderful thing she had felt in a long time. It made her feel connected to him and alive and wanted, and she didn't want him to ever stop for fear that she'd never feel this way again.

She felt his fingers link with hers, and she opened her eyes to look up at him. She could see he wanted to say something a few times but didn't appear to know what. They continued to move together, Fred feeling herself moving closer and closer to the edge until she was just hanging on, and when he told her that he would have fallen in love with her, she knew that she was lost. He thrust into her a few more times, and Fred fell with a cry just as he did, spasming around him.

Wrapping her arms more tightly around him, she trembled, feeling him in her and against her and with her. "I want to take you with me," she whispered. Beyond the purely selfish reasons for it, she knew that having someone like him with his knowledge and background would be a huge help in what she might have to do. "If I can--would you go with me? If it were possible?"

Giles caught his breath and allowed Fred to hold him. He memorized the moment, not knowing how long it would last. Closing his eyes, he memorized the way she felt, the way her voice filled his senses, and how she smelled. Giles never wanted to forget the moment of them, lying in his bed, holding each other.

It wasn't until he heard her question that he moved to look at her. His movements were slow since he didn't want slip out of her just yet. She wanted him to go with her. The thought made his heart start to beat faster. If he could leave with her, he could make sure she was safe and he would be with her. No more lonely nights and the thought made his eyes fill with tears.

"I would go anywhere with you, Fred. To the ends of the Earth, and back if I have to," he said as he looked down at her. "If...if you can take me with, then yes, I want to go with you, love. You've brought the light back to my life. It was so dark for so long but you reminded me how wonderful things can me. I never want to lose you."

Fred was afraid for a moment that she had pushed too far. She had just met this man, and she wasn't sure he'd be ready to leave this life, no matter how difficult he was finding it, but the emotions between them were so potent and palpable that she could leave it behind. She couldn't leave him behind. She wanted him with her and knew she needed him with her.

So when he said that he'd go anywhere with her, that he wanted to go with her, Fred felt her heart fill with joy. He wanted to be with her. "I never want to lose you either," she whispered to him. "I've lost too much. I can't lose you now that I've found you."

Reaching up, she ran her hand over his temple before leaning up to kiss him. She couldn't explain it, but now that he agreed to go with her, she knew somehow that it would be okay to take him. Somehow, she did. "I think that there was more than one reason you were my first assignment," she told him. "I can feel it. I think Cordy knew that somehow, we needed each other."

Giles gave Fred a loving smile. It filled his heart with joy knowing they Powers had done something right for once. "I've never needed anyone as I much I need you, Fred. I've only known you for a few short hours but I feel as if we've been connected for an eternity," he quietly said. He then ducked his head and blushed. "And, as you can see, I'm not very poetic."

He wanted to stay connected with her for the rest of the night, but Giles' arms were growing tired. Carefully slipping out of her, he rolled to his side and gathered her into his arms. He glanced at the clock and groaned a little. "This is usually the time I'm getting up to get ready for work," he said before softly kissing her temple. "But you're very worth a day of sleep deprivation, love."

Tea sounded nice right about then, and he knew he should get the paper from the front step before it was buried in snow. "I think I'm going to get up and make a cup of tea. Would you like one?" he asked, slipping out of the bed and putting his pajamas on.

"I dunno," Fred said with a soft smile, thinking that Rupert was quite adorable when he pinkened with embarassment, "I think that was really quite poetic actually. Of course, you're talking to the girl who used to think that quarks and anti-quarks were some of the most beautiful things in the universe."

Now, though, as she looked up him, she found herself thinking that she had found something even more beautiful.

When he had to finally pull out of her, she felt a small pang of disappointment at the loss, but smiled softly as instead he pulled her into his arms. She would have loved nothing more than to just lay there with him, but that obviously wasn't going to be possible.

"I'm sorry - I didn't mean to keep you up all night," she said as he got out of bed. She slid to the edge and looked up at him for moment. "A cup of tea sounds wonderful, though."

Reaching down to grab her jeans and sweater and underthings, she stood up and smiled at him. "I'm gonna go use the bathroom and get dressed, and then I'll meet you downstairs if that's all right," she told him before rising up on her toes to give him a kiss.

"Sound lovely," Giles said, returning Fred's kiss. He left the bedroom and walked down the stairs. When he got to the front door, he opened it, seeing they'd gotten several inches of snow since they had came back. He bent over to pick up the paper, and noticed a pair of feet by him.

Standing up, Giles looked at the man in front of him. He'd never seen him before and didn't know why he was there. He took a step back and blinked. "Who are you?" he asked, trying to find one of the weapons he kept in his foyer. He found a sword and picked it up.

"I'm Alcazar. The man hired to kill you," he said, waving his hand.

The sword flew out of Giles hand so he decided to grab something else. But before he could, the wizard sent him flying into one of the walls, making the pictures fall with a loud crash.

Fred had just cleaned herself and slipped into her jeans and sweater when she heard a crash downstairs, followed by a bolt of pain. Rupert!

Rushing out of the bathroom, she ran downstairs to the foyer to find a man standing there, a sword in one hand, a fireball in the other. Rupert was down on the floor against the wall, trying to get up. The man threw the ball, Rupert just managing to roll out of the way.

"STOP!" she screamed as she leaped the last couple of stairs, placing herself between Rupert and the man. This had to be Alcazar, she realized, the man the Council Board had hired. The man they wanted to kill Rupert.

"Leave now, girl, and I'll let you live," Alcazar growled. "This doesn't concern you."

"Leave him alone!"

"I warned you!"

Alcazar dropped the sword to the floor and conjured two fireballs, tossing one at each of them. But as they sailed through the air, she instinctively turned around and ran to protect Rupert, grabbing him and throwing her arms around him. She felt something pop in her and the heat of the fireballs hit her but immediately deflected hitting the nearby wall.

"Mi Dios! What kind of trickery in this?" Alcazar demanded.

Not even trying to figure out what had just happened, Fred let go of Rupert and turned around, striding toward the wizard, who tried to conjure another fireball. When he threw it at her, it was then that she realized she had a pair of wings as they wrapped around her, protecting her from the onslaught.

"What are you?!" he said as she pushed him up against the wall.

"His protector," she told him lowly.

Alcazar conjured another fireball, but when he tried to use it, their proximity caused it to be deflected right onto him. Screaming as the fire consumed him, he disappeared in ash and smoke.

Fred stepped away from the wall, looking down at herself for a moment before turning around. "Rupert, are you all right?"

"Fred, go back upstairs!" Giles warned as he watched Alcazar conjured two more fireballs. Before he could say another word, Fred was grabbing him and protecting him. Giles closed his eyes and tried to wrap his arms around her but something was in the way. And when Fred stepped away from him, his mouth fell open.

What he saw was the most beautiful thing he'd ever laid his eyes on. Coming out of Fred's back was a pair of wings, and there was a glow about her. He was enthralled by her beauty, and courage as she pushed Alcazar against the wall. And when the wizard burst into flames, Giles continued to stare.

"What?" he asked when Fred asked if he was all right. Blinking, he looked at her. "You're so beautiful, Fred." He furrowed his brow and looked down at the floor. "Yes, I'm all right. It's just...you have wings, and you were glowing and..." He cleared his throat and looked at her again.

Taking a step forward, Giles reached out and touched them. They were soft under his touch, and he smiled. "You really are an angel," he whispered before looking at her. There was still a slight glow about her and he couldn't resist the urge to lean forward and kiss her. "Thank you for saving me, love."
