Buffy Reviews: 1x01 "Welcome to the Hellmouth"
I thought that it might be fun to do this. I just finished my first run through of the series yesterday, and now I'm hoping to watch one episode a day for the next 144 days. I'll write down my thoughts, mostly so I can squee myself out and not go crazy on Twitter anymore.
Also, if you're a Buffy fan, comment and we'll talk about Buffy <33 Having someone to do a series watch-through with would be lovely.
First we have "Welcome to the Hellmouth". =)
+ DARLAAAAA. GOSH I LOVE DARLA. I don't even know why, but omg Julie Benz! Darla and Drusilla are both fierce vamp girls. (I just realized that I'm in for another like 14 episodes without Spike. WHAT AM I DOING?)
+ Xander is ADORABLE. His early crush on Buffy is ridiculously sweet, and it reaffirms the fact that I would've loved them together romantically after season seven. And gosh I seriously wanted to tackle him because he's so sweet and cute and XANDERRRR. *tackles*
+ Willow! What a stuttering sweetie. She's very remniscent of Tara in this episode, and a far cry from the confident girl she grows into.
+ Giles looks so young! And he's all stiff and twitchy and reminds me a bit of Wesley, which is hilarious because Giles mocks Wesley so much.
+ Buffy and Giles's first conversation about Buffy being the Slayer in the library. Specifically, when they both walk out and Xander comes out from the bookshelves and goes, "...WHAT?"
+ Is it just me or does Cordelia NOT look 16 at ALL? "WHAT IS YOUR CHILDHOOD TRAUMA?" and "Excuse me, I need to call everyone I have EVER met." I'm not sure if I missed Cordelia or if I'm going to get sick of her again.
+ Jesse is a douche. I'm glad he bit it in the first episode. I don't see how he was friends with people like Willow and Xander and managed to still be like that. I do wish that they'd brought him up again, though. Apparently, he was supposed to be talking to Xander in "Conversations With Dead People", which I think would've been interesting.
+ Angel...omg boy was HOT back in this season. I loved when he was wee and mysterious and didn't talk a lot. Also, Buffy's reaction to him: "I REALLY DIDN'T LIKE HIM." YOU GO BUFFY COCO.
+ "He stole my Barbie!" Willow and Xander are the best BFFs. They're so sweet, and I love the little kid stories of theirs!
+ "Seize the moment...cuz tomorrow you might be dead!"
+ Buffy is already doing things her own way. This is one of the things I loved about her from the beginning. Instead of taking the stuffy council way and ~honing~, she finds vampires with her own methods.
+ The Master is kind of lame so far. So is Luke. Darla and the Tacky 70s Vampire were far cooler. I loved the little "O rly?" look that they exchanged in the crypt.
+ Willow babbling at the vampire guy. Oh, sweetie. Why are you taking a shortcut through a GRAVEYARD? Seriously RUN GIRL RUN. Also, Spike's crypt is way classier than this one.
+ Buffy grows so much throughout the series. I've always known it, but having just watched "Chosen" for the first time yesterday, this is very, very apparent. Right now, Buffy wants nothing to do with being the Slayer, and she's far more concerned with fitting in at school.
