Let's combine two things I post about a lot in this journal: Cats and Japan.
Maru is a cat in Japan, looks like an exotic shorthair with his flat face. He's a total goofball with a box obsession, and it's fun to watch him romp through his owner's frighteningly clean residence.

"Maru" is a pretty common pet name. My landladies in Kamakura had a cat named Maru, a grey tabby who used to escort me from the front gate to my front door. When I let him into my place, he'd turn hissing and defensive, and I'd escort him out again. I attribute that to two things: 1) He wasn't familiar with the residence, or 2) In a Japanese household, you take your shoes off at the door. Since Maru didn't wear shoes, his owner would wash his feet in the bathroom sink. Judging from the yowls coming through the bathroom window next door, Maru did not appreciate that.
