Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States of America.
Seriously, could this day get any more amazing? Today, America woke up to George W. Bush's last day in office, to the inauguration of the first black president in history - we woke up to a freaking new era! Holy shit!! Now when we say "President," we're referring to Barack Obama, not someone who has fucked up this country so bad (and us with it), I am amazed at the optimism Obama... our president (man, does that feel weird to type)... brought with his speech. Wasn't his speech just amazing? I wish they didn't mess up on the oath though, lol. That was a bit odd, and didn't fit in with the formality of everything, but whatever.
Tomorrow is President Obama's first day on the job. I want to see something happen during this four-year term. I want to see change. All the promises and ambitions he listed out during his speech - fan-bloody-tastic. I want to see them in action, and I hope that I do. I have high expectations for him. I think everyone does. I really want to see American rebuild herself and shed away the shit ass reputation she's had for the last eight years. Damnit, I want other countries to look at America like she is at the forefront of the race to improving the world, not lagging behind everyone and slowing all the progress. Hell, I want to be fucking proud to call myself an American. You know? With all the controversy and the bad decision making since September 11th, I want the rest of the world to look at America and say, "Yes!" "She's back!" "Let's work with them!"
And honestly, I'm half scared out of my mind that all this euphoria is going to end so abruptly, I won't even have time to breathe. I don't even want to think about all the possible way things could go wrong. Seriously, I really want President Obama's first term to be brilliant. I want it to be hard and difficult, but I want it to be good and worth it. Damnit, I want to feel like America's finally got it right. We're finally back on track. We're finally doing what we're supposed to be doing. We're finally working with the rest of the world, not against them.
I want to see this era of change. I want to see our new president succeed like no one else before him.
2009 - 2017, baby.
Let's make history.
