HIDE AND SEEK REWATCH

Aug 03, 2009 09:11

Yay! Another week, another episode! Shall we start this?

We get to see Carson and Rodney being friends. It looks like they are really good ones. We have banter, humor and gene therapy. Am I the only one that thinks that David Hewlett is in good shape? And see how Rodney is jealous of Shep's gene and how Carson is ready to jump at the DNA manipulation bandwagon once the laws on human experimenting are out of the picture.

Rodney's got a toy he wants to try.

Peter and Elizabeth are having the dead people conference. He's saying that Shep's been assigning quarters to everyone and I don't think Athosian kids should be playing that close to the Control Room.

They are interrupted by the big kid grin Shep's got. Did you hear his laugh? I wish Shep could be this happy more often. See, it didn't take long for his gloomy mood from a couple days ago to vanish. Also see how he's fitting in with everyone so nicely, and even this annoying Canadian scientist that seems to be his soul mate in being all grinning and child-like.

I'll just take a moment to admire Shep's smile as he jumps down the stairs.

Look how eager Peter goes to punch Rodney. Ouchie! Shep noticed it too and is all smiles. He just had the chance to shoot at Rodney and seems pretty happy , proud and satisfied with it. Elizabeth is trying to be mamma, but she's also having fun. Peter is also happy. Isn't Shep lovely all the way through? And when he is just chekin' as well. *melts*

Opening credits! In non-bluish color!

Carson and Peter are geeking out about hero names. Aren't they cute? Rodney is annoyed and equally adorable. He needs food. And is being all sarcastic and doomy about it.

Now, let's see Shep in charge of security. For some reason Ford is also in this reunion. I like that Shep was better at talking to Teyla about why the Athosians can't be part of security detail. It's nice knowing about the Athosians and their culture and I just melt at Shep telling how cautious they are and his little smirk at Rodney. Poor Rodney.

Carson and Elizabeth. They are saying how smart Rodney is and how scary a ten thousand year old abandoned alien city is. She goes all psychologist on Rodney and they hope he's just being a bit scared.

Self destruct. Shep has seen a 20 kiloton nuclear explosion. But not up close. He wants Teyla to be part of everything. He trusts her.

Look at how totally adorkable he is when telling the Athosian kids scary stories. He's not really successful at scaring kids that has lived their lives in a galaxy in which boogiemen is real. He is capable of making them interested in the fun stuff though. Like hockey and football. The Athosians think these Earth folks are weird.

Teyla and Shep are bonding. I see them going a bit shippy on them, but I like their friendship and how they instantly trust each other.

Halling and Jinto are really cute, aren't they? Jinto is a lovely kid.

Football. I don't get this sport. I don't get the name either. Why call it football if they play with their hands? Anyway, Shep is trying to show Teyla how amazing it is. I think she's like me and doesn't get it. I find it adorable, even though I can't understand Shep's fascination with this sport. If I was there I would be trying to convince him how soccer (or the real football) is totally and completely awesome. Poor Teyla is having a hard time understanding Earth culture. Shep is just the cutest thing ever throughout the whole scene. He's charming and adorable and easygoing and leaves me completely stunned at how can he be so lonely on Earth. He makes friends so easy. It's really easy to like him, isn't it? I'm 200% sold on him.

It seems Jinto likes him too. He's got a hero worship going on and wants to be Shep in their Wraith hide and seek. What a cute boy! By now he must be an almost a full grown man. See, there is one thing he's got in common with Shep. They're always getting in trouble. I can see why they like each other. I can see Shep being this kind of child.

Shep runs off to find Jinto and is quick to put his people on the search. He's nice and lets Halling come with him.

Oh, no! The power is off. And back on. Weird. And the gate is coming on by itself. Ghosts! Oh, see, there is a creepy shadow following them. Yay!

The Athosians are freaked out and seeing shadows move. They think Elizabeth doesn't believe her. Nice to see them working on understanding each other.

Shep wants to establish a proper perimeter. I like to see him all military. Some think there are wraith in there, but Shep knows better. They wouldn't simply show up to scare them, he thinks the wraith will just attack and start shooting. He's right and very smart.

Halling is a very good father. He starts a prayer in Ancient, and ends it in English.

Rodney faints! I'm sorry, Carson, faint is NOT the proper medical term. I have fainted a couple times in my life and it's not a nice experience.

Spooky shadow spookies Shep. I don't think the P90 is going to make a difference, Shep. It likes Naquadah generators! It's dark and scary.

Rodney is smart. A smart man that is dying, hee. He believes that a dark thing that eats power is bad. Very smart.

Hello Jinto! *waves* He just discovered the transporters. I wonder if they spent those two days only using stairs. That tower is like 60 floors high.

Did you hear that? The noise is the same as the ring transports.

Poor Jinto thinks he's in trouble.

Peter is making the creature walk around in circles. If it was me I would be pissed at him.

Hey, look, it's that cute Marine. What's his name? Ford is going to be toast. He's fried and smoking. Poor little young Lieutenant. I like how they show the Marines being there for each other.

Containment vessel for alien culture. These Ancients were really good at experimenting with things and pissing them off. They usually end up making things a lot worse than before.

Jinto is being adorable again. Stuff happens. Ford is also good with kids.

See, it's not dumb! It's a mouse trap, is the thing actually this stupid to fall for the same trick twice? Couldn't the Ancients make a mouse trap with a remote control? This only works as a chance to make Shep look brave and Rodney… well, not so much. Poor Rodney is starving.

Jinto is afraid of the dark. Teyla is smart by coming up with this fear of fire thing. I wish we could have known more about the Athosians. Look at the families around the candles, scared and praying.

Daaaarrrkkk!

'Size doesn't matter.' 'It's a myth.' Hee!

See! Not dumb!

I like Shep's knife. Particularly where he hangs it.

See, Teyla is smart.

How many generators did they bring? Rodney is pretty fast at leaving it to Shep to be the hero. At this point I don't think Rodney even considers himself to be able to do something heroic. That's why this episode is important to him.

He sees that there's only one way to end this and only one person that can do something. That's when Rodney realizes it's got to be him. Until now, Rodney had never even considered himself. This goes a long way in establishing Rodney's personality from this point on. He sees he can do it and that it's pretty cool. Also, he impresses Shep. A lot. So much that he considers Rodney to be in his team. When he says Rodney's passed out instead of the other word, he's telling us how impressed he really was by his actions. Even Rodney impressed himself.

I like this episode. I had forgotten exactly how much. It's nice to see their first real problem being a mere two days after they arrive. It establishes the kind of show this is. The way they all deal with it, using each other's strengths and weaknesses and how naïve they were at first. I missed that.
