update

Well I haven't done this for a while so here goes.

First I want to talk about the garden. A fair amount of work has gone into it, hubby doing a fair amount in the first six weeks after Patrick was born so an update on what's growing etc:

* The raspberries are fruiting nicely, I get a good handful every day
* The strawberries are likewise doing well, I get 6-10 out of the patch a day at the moment
* The grape vine is actually growing well, and lo and behold is actually showing the will to produce a bunch.
* The potatoes early crop is now coming in. I took up the first row (four plants) today and I made potato salad with the little ones and we will roast the big ones tomorrow for with sunday dinner. They taste great!
* The broccoli is starting to produce, I took the first head of broccoli today for tomorrow's dinner
* the cabbages are starting to show sings of producing yay!
* the courgettes are going great guns. A couple more weeks and I will have those to eat
* the marrow is doing the same as the courgettes
* the cauliflowers are groing strong, waiting to see how they go
* have put out the leeks, but won't see results for a few months
* have planted the spinach and its growing strongly
* the onions will definitely produce, you can see it in some of them already
* waiting to see what happens with the baby corn
* the tomatos are starting to produce too

That was the existing lot. Now for the new stuff!
* today we picked up two purple bell pepper plants to go with our other peppers and the chilli plant
* today I got three melon plants - who knows how those are gonna go but it will be fun
* we planted some our winter seeds, carrots, late growing spinach, broccoli and cauliflowers. These will all become baby food in the future ;)

To say we are doing better than we expected is an understatement, and its a joy to be eating our own fruit and veg now.

Of course I have to mention my dearest gothling. Now two months old he is going strong. He's had his first stomach bug, and will have his first jabs on Wednesday. He would have had then Thursday just gone but for his illness. He now coos and talks, he grins and smiles, and it just beginning to chuckle awake (not just in his sleep). He's discovered his hands in the last two days and can willingly bring them to his mouth now. As a result he prefers sucking on the right one to his dummy. The left doesn't taste as nice apparrently. He's awake much more of the time in the day, but does sleep properly at night. And lastly the hair he lost is now growing back in. Its a joy being a mum, though admittedly sleep when he was ill was hard to come across as he was eating little and often. He's now back in rhythm and making up for lost time. He's such a strong, cute and content baby. And will stop gushing and just present you with pictures from playtime.
