Gothling starts school when!???

Ooof, after a long weekend after pregnancy drama - thankfully over it seems, just a little over 6 weeks till my due date yay! (I am so freaking done I cannot describe, but that's a whole other rant) - well today marked the end of the school holidays. Huzzah!

I cannot complain, the gothling was far better behaved this summer than I have had any right to expect, but I have kept him busy with visits from family, friends coming over to play etc. All good. So he starts going to preschool every weekday for three hours in the morning from now on in term time. Fabulous. He could not have been more excited. I could barely keep up with the excited boy rushing out the door.

Then followed a busy morning, the midwife, the hospital for a check up after the weekend's drama, the post office, the shopping, then just enough time for a cuppa and couple of chores before I collected him again. I was most proud that he came home in the clothes I sent him in, a very big deal when its the first time he's been anywhere other than home in underpants. We've really cracked the toilet training at home over the holidays, but I was nervous about out of the house as he's not the best at asking for the toilet. But nope, he was absolutely fine.

There was all sorts of letters when he came home, the start of term letter, the school year term dates for the fridge, his snack fees invoice, the form for the funding for his place (the government are kindly paying for his preschool education), and then there is was. The letter stating I needed to apply for his school place. Odd I thought, considering I and hubby both were under the impression he starts school after he turns five. But after trawling through the 84 page admissions guide pdf, I have found out that no, he does indeed start September 2013!

I'm not ready for my baby to start school!

I only just adjusted to the idea that he goes to preschool!

And seeing as I can't just say I want him to go to the local catchment school, I have to have three preferences... so begins hours of research into other schools to have as our second and third preferences. I have narrowed it down to four possibilities. Now to narrow four into two... I really wish I was not doing all this with baby brain!
