Day Two: Your first love, in great detail
I met Timmy on a school drama tour to South Africa. He was a J3 and I, a J1. Timmy played bass for the band performances, but it wasn't until I heard him sing on our last night in South Africa that I felt completely attracted to him. I still remember the song title - Fever. He was amazing. Haha! And he called me "Minah" the whole trip. Boo. We exchanged phone numbers when we touched down at Changi Airport, but I never heard from him for the rest of the year, until one day in December when I was on my way back from school (probably an OGL meeting). He sent me a text message asking if I was going to be involved in Orientation'07 and that he was thinking of crashing. I was pleasantly surprised and happily replied that I was, and he should totally come and join my OG. The week before Orientation I was in school again practising for our clan march-in, and decided to pop by the Black Studio to say hi to the people rehearsing for the alumni play The Golden Country, which would be staged during the first week of school. Timmy was in there as well, and this is when it got funny. He asked me if I was going to be involved in Orientation'07. I was confused for a bit, because he had texted me the same question before. So I said that I was, and that he told me he was gonna come crash and I told him he could join my OG. Then he was confused for a bit. It turned out that when we exchanged phone numbers back in March, he'd saved my number under "Minah" and when he texted me about Orientation, he had another "Minah" in mind. Hahaha! I was a bit disappointed that he didn't mean to message me in the first place, but he still agreed to join my OG and even told me he's going to come in his Fairfield uniform.
Monday morning of Orientation'07 rolled along, and yes, he did turn up in his Fairfield uniform. He completely fooled the rest of the OG, but some seniors caught on though. And it was so funny because some teachers even said hi to him in front of the OG, but they were still completely clueless about him being a J4 until I announced it at the OG bonding session at Pizza Hut on the last day of Orientation! After this, we did keep in touch, and even went out - watched a play, a show at the Esplanade, and some movies, dinners, and sat on the Esplanade rooftop.
The day we got together we watched Music & Lyrics (that show and the song has like, a special place in my heart now) and then we went to Fort Canning park. We'd been meeting and going out for about 3-ish months, but we weren't together. At Fort Canning, we talked about what would happen if we did get together, our religious backgrounds being an issue. But we decided to give it a shot, and 41 months later, we're still here.
Timmy came up with a poem, which I love.
She's the up to my down
She's the smile to my frown
She's the sun to my grey
She's the night to my day
We've definitely had more than our fair share of ups and downs, but there's no one else I'd rather be on this roller coaster ride with.
