Okay, I know I'm soooo two thousand and late to this post. But I LOVED your previous fic (your current one for some reason I can't get into, and I apologize for that) and would like to think that we are in some way friends (or at least friendly) because we've discussed law school and you've been so supportive of me in that regard. So I remembered your user name and came wandering in to see if there was anything new that you've written and came across this post.
I have nothing to contribute to her post (not to mention it's outdated) except for inappropriate gifs gathered from various Real Housewives franchises that are not very nice. But what I find interesting/what REALLY made me mad is when she says "When asked by people in this fandom why I've stopped writing, this is the reason I use. I feel I have nothing to add to this sad, desperate, drug-addicted prostitute portrait of Annie that we have managed to paint." to which I say, "That's a convenient bullshit answer. You write what you want to write, don't blame other people for your lack of inspiration and your poorly constructed fics that suck tbh not sorry to say~" (and actually I did look up which fics she wrote because I was hoping it wasn't an author that I liked, because that would have been disappointing)
Anyway, it is interesting to see some people's true colors fly when it comes to issue of defining fandom and the limits/responsibilities/what have you of fandoms. I set a LOT of personal LJ notes just so I can keep track of which people I don't agree with (and those that are awesome). To tell the truth, I've been in and out of M/M for a while because I think that some people (not just the OP and those that agreed with her) sometimes take the stanning and fandom too far and have issues with what is canon, what is fandom, and what is reality. I see it all the time on Twitter and Tumblr too, and maybe that's just the world we're living in =/
Lol, because I'm so three thousand and eight right? Haha.
And don't worry about not being into this one at all, it's a friggin baby fic for crying out loud - I think I'd even be wary about reading it. But yeah, I'd say we are friends so by all means I welcome your input here.
And YES! That comment you quoted was one of the things that irritated me the most - it was almost as if it was inciting the community to turn against writers who 'dare to go there' because another writer who they love for drawing out stories to 30 chapters of UST. I have to admit, I do like her fics and she is great with characterization but FFS there's only so many longing looks and interrupted will they/won't they moments I can handle.
It's sad that some people take things a bit too seriously - at the end of the day it is a TV show! I mean, it's fine if you see a bit of a character in yourself which I think a lot of us do, but don't take it so personally if that character goes down a different route in another person's fic that you as a reader wouldn't personally have gone down. Just click the little 'x' at the top of the web page and move on.
And the only character I will EVER Stan for is Troy :)
Thanks again for getting in touch. Did you ever read my fic I started called 'Your Mother Loves You...'? If so I'm going to update that one soon so keep an eye out.
Haha well I'm not going to talk trash (much) since there are always going to be stories you like and stories you don't, and who knows, maybe she'll one day write a story I care about but I *respectfully* disagree with your statement of her having good characterization (from the very long fic anyway) for now.
But that's the thing about writing! There's so much of it out there, you want variety because when something truly speaks to you, it only makes it that much more special. And it takes an extraordinary writer to write something that speaks to MANY people. There's nothing wrong with cheesy fluff, or super angst and everything in between. And quite honestly, if your fic specifically (I do believe she was calling you out as an example) was the worst thing she's seen, that speaks to a level of being sheltered IMO. There are some...disturbing things out there. Maybe not in Community, but in general. I don't think people should seek those out necessarily, but they're there.
Anyway, yes forever for stanning Troy =) He's just like a puppy to me.
Also, I don't think I ever started reading the fic "Your Mother Loves You...", I'll look it up tomorrow (I'm supposed to be sleeping now, shhh)
*Edit: I made life easier and added you to an email alert. So pardon the stalking, but I am officially stalking your LJ
Also I added you as a friend here on my personal journal and on my fic journal
Haha, respectfully disagree if you wish, I ain't takin no offence :)
And thank you, I thought I was mad for thinking that it was a post directed at me as some people had said it probably wasn't me who had been the trigger for her post. I think it's blatantly obvious I was. I completely agree though that there are worse things in the world than what I put down in THAT fic. Fics in other fandoms are downright disgusting. I don't think anyone in this fandom who writes has ever gone over that line - and even if they did I wouldn't criticise. I simply wouldn't read it or comment. If it offended me so much that I felt something needed said I would directly message them, not piss all over their journal or the community.
The fic I mentioned of mine is a bit dark, about domestic abuse. I stopped writing it after the MM post from that member because I couldn't get inspired, constantly second guessing what I was doing to the characters but I'm back in the zone and I'll be updating soon.
I've added you too with email alerts hon. I'll be stalking you too so we're cool. Cool cool cool.
