Boy, I tell you, Computer Programming just keeps getting better. In my last entry, I talked about how frustrated I was that I had spent $110 on a book that I'm not even going to need. Well, some good came out of that in that I can return the book for a complete refund. Fuckin' right.
However, this is how my day went in that class. Yesterday, we learned how to convert decimal numbers into binary numbers, and we talked briefly about the octal and hexadecimal number systems. Today, we took a pop quiz in which we had to convert a decimal number into binary, take a hexadecimal number and turn it into a decimal number, and then a binary number into an octal number. The first question was very easy because we spent a lot of time on it; the other two, I had no idea what in the hell I was doing, and neither did the rest of the class. I logically thought through the problems, remembering that the hexadecimal system ran on a base of 16, and used digits 0-9,a-f in its numbering. After that, it was a shot in the dark. I found out that I had the right idea, but didn't get the answer right. As for the other question, converting binary to octal, I decided to convert the binary into decimal then the decimal into octal. I screwed up one fucking number and got the question wrong. Wow, what a great way to start the year.
The fun didn't stop there! Next, we went through this boring as hell presentation about the history of programming languages, then we got to write our own program. It was a simple program that displayed "Hello!" when you executed it. However, after we wrote our program we discovered that we couldn't do a damn thing with it because our teacher, the ever brilliant Katherine Salch (she's very fluent in Engrish) forgot to allow us access to the debugging program in Microsoft Visual Basic. Well done!
Finally, at the end of class, she told us that we had an assignment but didn't give us a deadline for it. Now, in order to complete this assignment we have to check out, from the school's library, a copy of Visual Basic. However, in order to do so, she has to turn in this form that all of us had to sign talking about software piracy and some other such bullshit. Funny thing is, she never turned the sheets in. Five of us went to check out copies, only to find out we were unable to do so. Hmm, I wonder how we're supposed to get the assignment done.
Oh well, it's not like I really pay attention or need to. All Marcus (new friend) and I do is make fun of her and this stupid douche bag who sits on the other side of the room. I hate that fucking kid, and I don't even know what his name is. But he's such a fucking suck-up. "Well, I've never really programmed using a blah-blah-blah..." Yeah, shut the fuck up.
