Party Invite via LJ comment!cleo_magickJuly 16 2005, 08:03:23 UTC
Hey Nicole! How are you??? It’s summer! It’s hot! Is there a better way to spend a hot day than at a Pool Party? And why not support a good cause while you’re at it?
Come Sunday, July 24 from 12-6 to a Dispatch Fundraiser Pool Party at my house! (If you need directions, I’ll be happy to provide them)
I’m asking for at least a $5 donation from each person who comes, but anything else would be greatly appreciated. 100% of all the funds will go directly to the Elias Fund.
The Elias Fund is a charity that was set up by the band Dispatch to raise money for kids in Zimbabwe, specifically Section 17, to afford to go to school.
My goal is to raise $100, and there’s a reason why. I don’t know how much you know about the band Dispatch, but they were a completely independent band (no record label, no radio play, no videos on MTV) that created a HUGE following based only on word-of-mouth (That’s how I heard of them). Dispatch broke up, however, last year. They had one huge final show at the Hatch Shell in Boston. They expected about 30,000 people to show up. 110,000 went to the show and practically shut down Boston.
The anniversary of that final show is coming up on July 31, 7.31. To celebrate this anniversary weekend, a documentary was created about the bands final days called lastDISPATCH. The documentary is being shown at the Somerville Theater starting July 28 at midnight through the 31st. If I can raise $100, I can get 4 tickets to raffle off to the July 28 show. These tickets will be 4 guest spots to sit on the floor of the theater with the band. (I don’t even have these tickets so it’s pretty amazing that I can get them to raffle off).
Even if you don’t want the tickets and don’t want to go to the show, you can still donate. After all, it is 4 tickets, so you can take 3 of your friends.
But aside from all of that, this is a chance to hang out with friends this summer. It’s a chance to swim, eat, socialize, and have fun.
***Please feel free to bring as many people as you want.***
