[Room 311, Thursday early evening]

May 18, 2006 19:54

Alec returned from his trip into town, laden with bags that were still awkward just for being large and in the way. He dumped them on the bed, whereupon Min jumped up and sat on his pillow, watching as he began pulling things out to put them away.

He'd at least managed to completely avoid Parker while there, chatted with Callisto, Buffy, and RoryRead more... )

Jack came in and immediately flopped on his bed. "Hey."

Alec looked over from the closet, hanging up the last of his new clothes with a military precision that was mostly just a product of having so little to keep in order. He grinned at his roommate, taking in the bandages and the still-prevalent look of exhaustion. "Hey. Welcome back."

[ooc: Continuing tomorrow is fine. :D]

"Good to be back," Jack said. "So did I miss much?"

"Well," Alec mused. "Mostly just socialization in the common rooms, lots of free food, and very friendly girls." He closed his closet and walked back over to his bed to throw all the empty bags away, flashing a grin at Tyler. "It's been a busy week."

"Free food is good," Tyler said. "Firendly girls? Better."

He rubbed his forehead. "So should we work out a signal in case you have company?"

"You are an excellent roommate already, in addition to being gone for a week," Alec noted, sitting down on his own bed. "A signal would be a good idea. Anything you prefer?"

Not a condom floating in the toilet.

"Can't go wrong with the classics," Tyler shrugged. "Sock on the doorknob, sounds of Marvin Gaye from within? That would work."

"I think we'll skip the musical accompaniment," Alec said, bemused. "Or at least until we have something to play it on. Sock's not a bad idea - but easy for someone else to mess with. Maybe we just need a sign on the door." He said it with a smirk, but his thoughtful look belied the casual-ness of the suggestion.

"What would we write?," Tyler asked thoughtfully. "I mean, we could get a white board, that's easy. But we don't need half the dormstanding outside listening."

He lifted his head. "My thing is, there's this girl. At home. I ... kind of don't know where things are with her."

"I think if half the dorm's that pathetic to want to listen, let 'em," Alec said, shrugging. "But a whiteboard would work. Could just think of a code word to write on it that means 'busy, go away'."

Alec looked at Tyler a moment, curiously. Neither of them had been particularly communicative yet, but Alec supposed you had to start somewhere. "Yeah?"

"Maybe something like, 'out of coffee'?" Tyler suggested. "Nothing that anyone else would notice."

He frowned. "Yeah. She visited me and stuff, where I was before. I didn't tell her I was coming here. She's probably pissed."

"Exactly. And that works," Alec said, nodding. "So, 'out of coffee' it is, for all our roommate-warning needs."

Alec snorted as he flopped back on his bed, turning his head so he could still see Tyler. "You going to tell her, or just let it wither and die?"

"I should tell her. Someone else probably will if I don't," Tyler said. He did not sound entirely unhappy about the prospect.

"But I dunno if I want to try and keep things going. She's kind of nuts, and you know how I told you I lose time sometimes? That screwed up stuff with us. Long story."

"It always is," Alec said dryly, crossing his arms under his head. "Is it the good kind of nuts, or the scary psychotic kind of nuts?"

It took a long moment for Tyler to answer. "Yes," he said. "Both. She used to go to support group meetings for diseases she didn't have. The type that really wants you to ask what her damage is, you know?"

"I kind of loathe her. But I also like her, like, a lot." He laughed,a humorless chuckle. "In this weird way, she really understood me."

Alec shot him a grin. "Is that why you hate her? Or why you like her?"
