Alec was in residence, door open.

He was also trying to figure out what one did with a giant spoon with fake cereal and milk in it.

So far, not much luck in that direction.

Sam was having a difficult time thinking of something he dreaded more than this potential conversation, but when he'd said he'd do anything to get Dean back, he'd meant it.

Knocking on the door, he peered inside at Alec. "Hey," he said. "Can I come in?"

Looking up, Alec smirked at seeing Sam at his door. "Sure." He finished tugging his blankets into place and sat down, waving for Sam to come in, a little anxious as he realized Sam might be bearing news he'd been hoping for. "Figured anything new out?"

"We've figured out a lot of stuff, yeah," Sam replied, stepping fully inside the room. "For starters, we know who's behind all of this - her name is Jeanne Laveau. She's a priestess, into voodoo, and we're pretty sure she's related to someone that our dad...took care of a few years ago."

Alec's eyes widened at the phrasing, but he nodded. "Okay, so do you guys just need to do some spell thing to get Dean back?"

"Sort of. That's the biggest part of it, at least. Once we figured out what kind of magic she used, Dawn was able to find the spell she put on Dean. It's more of a curse actually," Sam explained, "putting him in a separate, parallel dimension. To get him back, we've got to make a portal between our dimension, and the one he's in." Sam sighed when he thought of how willingly Dawn had agreed to do the ritual. "There's just one problem with the spell."

Sam frowned and bit his tongue at Alec's first comment before he said something harsh and drove the conversation away from the matter at hand. "In order for it to completely work, there has to be a physical exchange. We won't be able to close the portal unless we exchange Dean with the person who cast the curse. Which means, we've got to get her. And that's why I'm here."

"And here I thought I'd have to talk you into breaking the law with me. I should have known better." Sam smirked lightly. "She's on the mainland, in a motel not too far from here."

"Then we go and take her up to the cliffs," Sam replied. "Dawn's going to have everything set up for the ritual, so once we get there, we can get started. This is also where we need you - Dawn and I are going to be the ones opening the portal, and keeping it open. Which means someone else has to be the one to grab Dean."

"Here?" Alec cocked his head slightly. "So we've got to go get her, then bring her back to Fandom. And I can grab Dean, I guess, as long as you're not expecting me to do something magick-y."
