I absolutely LOVE it. I have a thing for high school fics.
And you describe Joel's feelings so well I can almost feel them myself.
I also like that nothing is rushed. It goes at a natural pace.

On another note, I'm really wondering what happened to Joel that makes him feel so bad just thinking about it.
