Forbidden Love: Chapter 3 : Part 1 :Silly Destiny & Stupid Fate
07:33 pm, 13th March 2002
2nd Floor, Outside Dance Room, SM Academy
If fate and destiny were in the guise of human beings, would they be born to be rivals? If so, who would be more powerful? The powerful and cruel fate who could force one’s self into a never ending dead end? Or the beautiful and interchangeable destiny, the bringer of true love, happiness and… death? That person was certainly a fool to ponder the answer; certainly, did that person know just how powerful the two were? What… did it mean to ponder? Ponder, to be lost in thought, to question the very beings of fate and destiny… just to find the never ending answer.
Fate and destiny, who were more powerful? Could this be the never ending question with the never ending answer? Was Yoona a fool? Why would she be worrying so much about such a… insignificant issue? Judging these two with her own fragile mind, did she really have the right? And… shouldn’t she really be thanking them? Thanking destiny for helping her arrive to SM Academy safe and sound? Thanking destiny for making herself, Im Yoona, a pure, serene and gentle girl? And shouldn’t she be thanking destiny for making her meet… him, the person who had made her realize love?
But… where was fate? Fate was there, huddled in the corner of Yoona’s mind plotting and scheming to bring her misfortune, eating away all her happiness and slowly pushing her into that dead end. In her mind, this road that she was walking on seemed almost never ending. Little did she know that with every step, she was getting closer, closer to the other end, closer to the other side. Of course, she wasn’t there yet and she wouldn’t be in ages, the end of the road, the mysterious nothing. What was it on the other side? Was it happiness? Misfortune? Would she EVER reach the other side? The dead end, HER dead end, the end of her everything, Yoona couldn’t see it but it would be there waiting for her eventually. But… little did she know.
So was it by destiny that the person standing in front of Yoona’s eyes right at this moment was none other than Leetuek? Well of course, the very thought of that, wasn’t that significant, not at all. It was just Leetuek and she saw him at SM Academy every day anyway. But wasn’t it strange that it was this person? The world definitely seemed small, Yoona thought, small enough that you could find your friend right in front of you on a random night, of a random day in a random situation. If the world was this small, why couldn’t it be… him that had opened the door? Lee Donghae.
Wait a moment, was she going insane? What was she thinking?
“Err… Leetuek oppa! What are you doing here?” Yoona asked half-heartedly, noticing how her voice lingered unhappily at the sight of Leetuek who had a big grin on his face expecting her to react the same, though she didn’t, she didn’t even noticed.
Maybe Leetuek noticed the expression on Yoona’s face, maybe he could feel the slight unhappy aura radiating from the girl in front of him or maybe he just… knew. Sometimes fate was cruel, sometimes fate would make you experience something that you will forever want but will never have. No matter how small it is, fate will never allow you to reach it, it would always be out of reach. But of course, it didn’t really matter to him, fate never helped him much with anything.
“Umm… we got into a bit of trouble with Mr Hyo”, Leetuek answered quietly, his big grin that he was wearing before had gradually turned into a small smile. He didn’t notice that he was staring at Yoona for the entire time when he had said it, it was those eyes. Blame those innocent and deep eyes that were staring back at him. Leetuek never found a pair of eyes so deep and alluring, but they were looking back at him with the slightest of slight disappointment and discontent.
“Oppa?”
Was she sad about something? Was she not happy to see her oppa? Questions swam their way through Leetuek’s mind but he ignored it, simply because he didn’t have the right to deserve the answers to these questions. They weren’t sisters and brothers and they weren’t even close to begin with. But wasn’t it strange how he understood her? Not just understood, but really understood her.
“OPPA?”
Leetuek never knew why he seemed to understand the reason behind every little action she did, the way she flicked her hair, the way she pouted, the way she sighed uncontrollably. No matter how significant or insignificant the actions were, Leetuek could find the reason or more specifically the emotion behind it. He felt like a mind reader, the thought of being able to tell what Yoona was thinking just by looking at her actions made him feel happy inside, made him feel like Yoona’s unrealistic best friend.
“OPPA! GET OUT OF THE WAY! WE WANT TO COME IN!”, Yuri shouted out as she shoved Leetuek aside who had seemed lost in thought while Yoona gathering up all her common sense, quickly pressed her hands to her ears.

2nd Floor, Dance Room, SM Academy
The time certainly seemed long, in fact, long enough for a mere 13 minutes to seem more like an hour. Well, it certainly seemed that way for Yoona, the three of them were sitting there, actually more like sprawled there on the floor, waiting, waiting an hours’ worth of 13 minutes for Mr Hyo to arrive. Yuri was in a dark and grumpy mood, and Leetuek’s behaviour and Mr Hyo’s lateness was certainly not helping it. And the fact that Mr Hyo… still did not arrive made her even more irritated than she already was.
“Oh my god… when is he arriving? If he takes this long to walk from his office to this damn room, then he isn’t fit to be a dance teacher”, Yuri cried out, her voice echoing quietly among the spacious dance room. Leetuek who was lying on the floor with his hands at the back of his head looked up at Yuri with mixed disgust.
“Well excuse me! Like your dance teacher is any good”, Leetuek snapped back in response while eyeing the door to check whether there was any physical approach by anybody. When darkness stared back at him, Leetuek sighed sadly, Mr Hyo didn’t arrive back yet. There was the look of sadness on Leetuek’s face, Yoona thought, maybe it was because he didn’t want to be here. Of course, nobody would want to be here, sitting down waiting forever for somebody to come. Not mentioning the time of course. Or maybe it was because he really wanted Mr Hyo to stand there, right at the door, to have heard what Yuri said about him and then get her in trouble.
“Please, my dance teacher is magnificent. Your dance teacher on the other hand… I wonder what he is doing right now? Is he having a cup of tea do you think?”, Yuri asked bitterly as she crossed her legs, and out of irritation, uncrossed her legs again.
“Oh shut up, stop wasting your breath”, Leetuek scowled as his eyes travelled away from the doorway to the ceiling over him.
“What’s with your attitude? What about me? It’s thanks to your slowpoke of a teacher… oh my god, seriously, can he hurry up so we can get this over with?”
“Like I said before, stop wasting your breath”
“Jerk”, Yuri said looking over at Leetuek and sticking out her tongue.
A few metres away from Yuri, Yoona sat with her legs crossed and her eyes fixed to the doorway and trying to listen for the faintest footsteps. Of course it wasn’t really working, because beside her, two people were bickering to their heart’s content.
“Do you know all the good things I could have been doing tonight? I could have had dinner. I could have watched TV. I could have finished my homework… which is due tomorrow for your information. And… far out, I could have been sleeping. Oppa! Are you listening?”, Yuri looking over at Leetuek who wasn’t paying attention while waving her hands at him frantically.
(Silence)
Footsteps were heard from a distance and in an instant, Leetuek’s head snapped up, Yuri who was focused at Leetuek tore away to look at the door too. As for Yoona, well… she was focused on the doorway for the entire time. The footsteps were loud and quick as if the person was in a hurry, as the footsteps came closer Yoona felt mixed feelings of fear and curiosity. Yoona didn’t know why she was experiencing feelings of fear, fear of what? Yoona had the craziest thought cooked in her mind of a killer rushing in. Actually, that would be kind of scary. Yoona slowly pushed herself back and waited for the footsteps to reveal itself. In came Mr Hyo wearing a big smile on his face, and to Yuri’s disgust, he was also holding a mug of tea.
“So he was having tea, what a git”, Yuri whispered quietly to Yoona, her eyes narrowed at the sight of Mr Hyo whose big smile had disappeared when he caught the sight of the two girls.
“Err… you two must be Yoona and Yuri, am I right?”, Mr Hyo asked as he looked over curiously at the sight of them while he gestured at Yoona and Yuri as he called out their name.
“Yes sir, Ms Han Kyung sent us here, she said you had something for us to do”, Yoona replied softly while looking surprisingly at Mr Hyo’s slowly turning awestruck face.
“What?! I never said… I thought it was meant to be tomorrow”, Mr Hyo stuttered, his face was gobsmacked.
“WHAT?! Are you serious?! Then what are we doing here?”, Yuri yelled out, her voice certainly seemed to have some sort of supernatural presence to it because as soon as her voice projected, Mr Hyo flinched and shook slightly.
“Err… d-did you hear your t-teacher properly?”, Mr Hyo asked quietly, his face bowing down as if not wanting to look Yuri in the eyes.
“Of course we heard her properly! She said you had something for us to do, and we weren’t allowed to go home until we finish it!”, Yuri snapped back causing Mr Hyo to cringe once again.
“…Okay, that is strange, either your teacher said it wrong or you two must have heard it wrong ”, Mr Hyo said slowly tilting his head slightly as though deep in thought and then snapping back to reality when Yuri shouted at him again.
“WE’RE NOT DEAF! WE HEARD HER PROPERLY!”, Yuri screamed out, instantly standing up, her eyes seemed as though daring Mr Hyo to talk back on her.
“Alright alright”, Mr Hyo smiled nervously.
“Mr Hyo, does that mean we get to go home?”, Yoona asked.
“Well of course! Tomorrow, I’ll send Leetuek and Eunhyuk to come fetch you and then you can complete your punishment together. And speaking about Eunhyuk, where is Eunhyuk?”, Mr Hyo asked as he looked over at Leetuek who immediately looked away but after a brief moment turned his head around to face Mr Hyo with a mad expression.
“Hang on! If we weren’t supposed to do our punishment tonight, then why am I here?”, Leetuek asked angrily, the words that came out of his mouth seemed to hit Mr Hyo right in the face.
“Err… y-you dumbarse Leetuek! D-didn’t you hear me properly? I said it was t-tomorrow!”, Mr Hyo stuttered as he quickly wiped his sweaty hands on his trousers.
“Ahahahas… you idiot Leetuek… ahah…”, Mr Hyo laughed to himself but instantly stopped when everybody was looking at him with a bitter expression.
(Awkward)
“I’m out of here, let’s go Yoona”, Yuri said folding her arms and quickly walking out slowing down slightly when she got to Mr Hyo to give him a glare before heading to the door way. Yoona got up slowly, ignoring the pins and needles that had formed around her legs, and bowing to Leetuek and Mr Hyo before heading to the darkness where Yuri was waiting for her.
“A fabulous, fat and ugly lie sir, very funny, you should be a comedian”, Leetuek suggested bitterly, giving Mr Hyo a small slap on the back before stalking off to the door.
The journey from the dance room on the second floor to the entrance at the ground level was indeed one heck of a journey. Yuri was complaining non-stop about simply everything, Leetuek who had gotten infected by Yuri germs was doing just the same. And as for Yoona, she was in the middle of all the commotion, all the loud and noisy commotion.
“OH MY GOD! I hate her, I just hate her…”, Yuri screamed out once they had entered the elevator and the door had closed silently in front of them.
“Well you know what? Mr Hyo is the biggest lying git I’ve seen in my life! Man I’m so stupid, I should’ve listened to Eunhyuk and ditch the git”, Leetuek raged as he pressed the ground level button, and in his fit of rage started pressing the button rapidly.
“And do you know what? That stupid witch lied to me and Yoona saying that we must do something tonight… what a load of crap! Now I’m going to have to stay up so late to do my homework. Oh my god, somebody give me a gun so I can shoot the witch in the face”, Yuri cried out, and in her fit of rage joined Leetuek and started bashing the buttons on the elevator rapidly.
“How much damn homework does your school give you?”, Leetuek asked as he looked over at Yuri who was glued to the level one button that she was pressing repeatedly.
“They gave me a mountain of homework thank you very much for asking”, Yuri snapped quickly shooting a sharp glare at Leetuek.
“Well I have a mountain and a half”, Leetuek replied bitterly but Yuri wasn’t listening, instead she screamed out randomly.
“ARRRRRGH! I HATE YOUR GUTS MS HAN KYUNG! I have so much homework to finish and- OWOWOWOWOW”, Yuri cried out as she jumped backwards in pain causing Leetuek to jump as well from the sudden high pitch scream.
“Yuri! What happened?”, Yoona who had been standing in the corner in silence instantly reached forward to her best friend whose face was slowly growing red.
“I think I sprained my finger”, Yuri moaned in agony as Yoona and Leetuek held onto her.
