we all fall down.

There was an odd sense of contentment as she fell. Where she was falling to she did not know nor did she care to know. She just hoped that it would be a long time before she ever found out. It was the first time she could feel peace coursing through her mind.
She was certain that death was smiling on her now. She was certain that this was death's gift to her. Why Death would owe her a gift was another slice of knowledge she could not percieve, but to question it seemed a near vile thing to do. She continued to fall for ages as the world passed her by above. She continued to fall as others neither rose nor fell themselves, but simply dissapeared into an engulfing darkness that crumbled away the imprint of their once existing souls.
But suddenly she realized she was falling no more, but floating still. She was parallel to something solid. Probably the ground; she couldn't be sure. She opened her eyes to darkness. Slowly she pushed herself downward to allow the very tips of her toes to rest on the solidity beneath her.
As she did a ripple of warmth ran through her as she was released. She spun around looking for whatever it was that was leaving her to allow the long lost thoughts to come flooding back. Tears seeped through her eyes as color returned to create a solitary room with a solitary figure cloaked in black. She turned to him.
"What is this?" It was merely a whisper, but he heard and what he heard nearly brought him to tears.
"The world needs you again Elizabeth. You are a queen." as he spoke he glided towards her to place his slender hands on her bare shoulders. She shook under his porcelain skin.
"I can't go back. I can't take care of them." she tried to look into his eyes, but there was no face to see. "I can't. Death has given me this gift. He would be an Indian Giver to take it now."
"Then maybe that is what I am."
Tiny glass beeds began to fall from his face leaving a trail from which a young man's face appeared. His eyes shone a silver blue with the underlying presence of a blackness so absolute no would dare challenge it. No one except her.
"Death." It was not a question. Just an affirmation. He bowed without dignity to this title. He bowed to the fear of it. He bowed to the hollowness of it. He bowed to the greif. He bowed to all things which he hated which was his gift to give.
"I thought I could save you. I thought they would not need you." She stared into his eyes still. Noticing the long blonde hair that curled around the sides of his angular face. Death was beautiful.
"You still can. Just let me go. Let me fall. I cannot go back." She was becoming panicked as her hands grasped the darkness about him which turned to silk by her touch. He tried to comfort her with embrace, but she only shook harder.
"You can and you will. There is no other choice except to return to life. Return to light." The top of her head was a mass of gleaming black curls. He hesitated then kissed those very curls. He wanted to see her green eyes.
"I gave you this gift against all of the laws created by the creators of this existence. It is close to revenge that they demand your return now after so long." he tilted her head back to see shining emeralds. "Trust me, and I will correct it. I promise you that Elizabeth."
As she looked at him she felt trust for this horrid creature disguised as a man. As much as she just wanted him to release her she clung to him. Go back and he will fix it. How could he? Her eyes slipped shut. It wouldn't matter either way. It wasn't her decision. It was never hers to begin with. Her body sagged in submission.
"Send me away then." He looked at her with wonder at the sudden change. He didn't want to let her go, but there was a small pinprick begining to form above them into a beautiful ressiliant light. A sigh escaped his lips that nearly froze the hair on her head.
"I will make it right, and we will meet again." She looked at him one last time as he motioned towards the light that was begining to sting his eyes. She turned towards acid beams and it engulfed her more fully than the darkness ever had, but this could not still her mind, but only compell towards thoughts unwanted. She began to rise faster that she had ever fell.
He cried as he saw her for the last time in this form.

Somwhere in the world a baby began to cry as it entered the world with the creation of man.
